Looking to get an electric drumset

Hi, I'm looking to get an electric drumset, my teacher and a friend of mine have Rolands, and they are pretty awesome,

I think I am getting the Roland TD-9S V-Tour Electronic Drum Set

but then I saw the Roland V-Compact Series TD-4S Electronic Drum Set which is cheaper

I beleive the difference is in the module, and that it doesn't have as many sets and songs, which are both very important to me.

I also need to buy an amp. Would any regular guitar amp on ebay work fine, or is there specific ones for drums. Also if you have any amp suggestions in the $100-250 range it would me much appreciated

thanks for your help!!

-Nico

For the amp part, well guitar amps are called guitar amps for a reason, they only sound good when they amplify the certain frequency range that guitars make. This would make your electronic set sound really bad. For a drumset you need an amplifier/speaker that reproduce all the frequencies that a drum set produces, which is a broad range of frequencies. An amp like this would work good Buy Simmons DA50 Electronic Drum Set Monitor | Drum Amplifiers | Musician's Friend
Also keep in mind if you want the amp to be able to play at loud volumes you would need a bigger amp then the one I suggested.

Re: Looking to get an electric drumset

Those kits are a nice choice but not if you plan on gigging with electronics. The cymbal voices are lacking a little. If your budget is limited then consider the Yamaha kit that sells for about $800. I tried it an GC and two of the kits sounded great at default settings.
I use a Roland TD-10 expanded. I've been gigging for about 5 years now with it. The drums sound great through our sound system. Drum monitors are tough to come by. The cymbals, snare, and toms are well produced by standard wedges and you'll only need say 100 watts to do a decent job for adequate sound levels onstage. The kick drum is the hard part. I use an 800 watt power head with a horn that tolerates high wattage. The woofer is a Ampeg 18. Very heavy and it just barely does the job.
We have 3000 watts out front and most of the wattage is needed for the kick drum and bass guitar reinforcement.
If you are not gigging with it then just get a very good set of headphones. The people you live with will thank you for it and you be able to play for houurs a day without grief.

Buy Simmons DA200S Electronic Drum Set Monitor Factory Restock | Drum Amplifiers | Musician's Friend

The first kit seems better since i think you can change the pads to mesh ones, and you can add a double bass pedal or at least buy another.

Re: Looking to get an electric drumset

I went into a drum shop before Christmas to get some Rolands -- I'd been drooling over those mesh heads for years -- and I was able to play a couple Roland sets and a Yamaha set.
The Yamahas blew me away. Better drum sounds, better kit sounds, better accompaniment sounds, and I just went to heaven playing those. I even liked the rubber heads better than the mesh. I bought the dtxtremeIIIspecials after comparing it to the Roland 9 and Roland 12.
Play the Roland and Yamaha side by side and see what you think.
Both Roland and Yamaha make amps for their drums.
Good hunting!
