No matter what snare you get, your choice of heads and style of tuning are going to change the sound.

Trying to be helpful.
This is true. You take the stock heads and change them you have a completely different sound. I choose the Dunnett snare simply because of it's versitility but the drawback is it cost me my first born.............lol Starting at $1000.00 the quality and the craftmanship is outstanding. Carter Beauford plays the exact same one as mine. On the other hand you don't have to spend alot of $ to get a nice sounding snare. I have several snares and the one I use with the Dunnett is made by DW called DDrum and it is a 13x7 and it sounds sweet with the Aquarian Hi Energy batter head and the 24 stran wires . There is so much you can do to a snare to get the best sound that you're looking for. Play around with ideas and you just might get lucky

Re: The perfect snare?

Ddrum equipment isn't made by DW, are you sure you aren't thinking PDP?

Yeah, PDP is definitely DW.
DDrum is totally different.

But PDP's snares are awesomemazing(:

Re: The perfect snare?

^^ there seems to be a lot of posts on Drumset Connect that have nothing to do with drums whatsoever

Back to snare drums: I recently bought a snare drum from Animal Custom Drums UK.
Specs: 14x6 Maple shell, 10 lugs, standard hoops and throw off, Remo Ambassador batter, Remo clear reso,20 strand Pearl snare wires and a red sparkle wrap. This was only £250 inc. post+ packing. ( not sure what that is in US dollars)
The drum itself sounds fantastic, responds well to stick power, rim shots are nice and sharp. I am very happy with it indeed. I could have gone for a trick throw off and die cast hoops etc..but my budget was at it's limit, not to mention that my wife wasn't too happy about me spending that amount on just one drum

Animal Custom Drums also build complete kits to any design, check out their website and be amazed!

You mean like spam and such? Yeah that's annoying.

Nothing wrong with going a little off topic some times & a little ribbing here and there, as long as they don't get carried away. As long as the members keep on track with the threads subject.
