Drum ringing? Hi, I have an old Dixon kit, it needed a lot of work. It still does, but I have a question. When I hit the toms, there's SOMETHING ringing, but I can't find out wtf it is ... I hit the batter head, and it sound somewhere near the screws, maybe inside the part it screws into. The problem is, I have no idea how to open that part. If anyone can offer why it rings, I would appreciate it. Also if you know how to stop it |

Re: Drum ringing? Is it the drumhead? If so use a tuning ring. Just about everyone sells them. |

Re: Drum ringing? I don't THINK it's the drum head. I got some new 2 ply Evans(love 'em), and someone said to tighten and push in the middle, and I did, and the glue cracked, and then I stopped hearing a crack. I could be the drum heads though. What would the ring do, specifically? |

Re: Drum ringing? That cracking sound if from the head setting in and the adhesive makes that cracking sound. But after your reach that sound don't tighten it anymore.
Instead, loosen it to tune. Once the head is seated, it's ready to be tuned.
As for the ringing, answer the phone...
Or get some dampening rings or some Gel. |

When I said ringing, I hope you understand I meant rattleing
MY BAD! I'm pretty sure it's something loose, where you can't reach(you know, where the screw screws into), just my luck! I don't think gels will help for that, unless I stuff them inside |

Re: Drum ringing? I would say take the drum heads off and make sure all the screws inside are tight |

Re: Drum ringing? it COULD be your snare drum...
you would probably realize that it was your snare, not your tom, but i thought id suggest it anyway.
sometimes snares buzz when you hit toms. it annoys me. it really, really annoys me. |

Re: Drum ringing? drumn00b
Well in that case, I don't think that loose screw may be in the drum after all. |
