Re: Need advice on Dixon drum co.

awesome Jim... that was all really helpful...i really like your demon series kits...and i hope to be purchasing a set soon...it's refreshing to see a company such as dixon actually get on a public forum and give info. about their product...that is really cool and makes me like your company more...one question though is why wait this long to get in the US market...and do you have a drum company you are trying to compare yourself to as far as drum quality...thanks hope to hear from you again!!!

skin,
Basically the folks at Dixon were not ready for the US market, there was not a complete line up of drums so to speak, so with the help of Kaman Music, there is now, a nice product offering combined with the service of Kaman.

Dixon is not trying to compare itself to anybody, we're just trying make drums that sound great and look good. We don't have a roster full of artists, so we are trying to support working drummers on local level who are working clubs on the weekends as well as newer drummers trying get their bands/music out there. By support I don't necessarily mean endorsements, and free drum sets. We have connected with a few dixon players who have sent in pictures and bios of themselves and their bands and included them in our blogs, fanpages, and tweets.

Hope this doesn't sound too "salesy"

Jim

Re: Need advice on Dixon drum co.

This post caught my eye because I also came across the dixon demon set on musicianfriends. There is even a dixon demon 6-piece that comes with Sabian AAX cymbals.

Thanks Jim! Now that I know a bit more about Dixon I will actually consider purchasing a kit in the future line-ups.

I was curious on what the size of the mounting holes are on the toms.

The Demon series uses 10.5mm L-arms, while the Outlaw series uses 12.7mm.

Ipse,
I would say a single-ply clear head would be a good choice. Glear G1 Evans or a Remo clear ambassador. I'm of the opinion that sound is very subjective, what sounds good to one person, may not sound good to another, so choosing heads and a tuning that fits the music style you like/play, is the key.

Played a Dixon set briefly yesterday at my drum store, and I was favorably impressed.

I was told that Dixon uses cheap Mahogany from Philippines for the Demon kit, is this true or false?
