Re: Ddrums

Hey, Buddy,
Congratulations, you're gettin' a set!

The ddrum Diablo Punx 5-piece is an entry-level set selling for about $600 before tax. The shells are made of basswood. Basswood is on the low end of wood quality for drumsets, I believe.

When you buy a drumset, there's always a tension between getting that set quick so you can start playing, and saving enough money for a good quality set. You can either get it quick or save up, as long as you're aware of which you're doing and of the quality you're getting.

If you like the sound of the basswood shells, they may be a winner regardless.

But I suggest you let us know what you can afford to spend on drums, or on drums and cymbals, and let some of the guys who know their stuff make suggestions to you. Give us as much info as you can about the kind of music you like to play and what you're looking for in a set. You may find that, for just a bit more money, you can buy a different brand or set that is of higher quality.

Re: Ddrums

Alright cool thanx man. Well My Budget is $700$ I know its kinda cheap but I have Lifegaurds salary sooo...you can see my prob I play punk rock and I like that virgin bass andd twoo down one up concept. its a big seller for me if its set up that way. Prefably not entry level but I think with some tuning and new heads that the punx series will sound alright. If you have anything better in that range that would be good to. I really want a virgin bass. I love the sound

Re: Ddrums

If you like deeper sounding drums you should look into getting a maple drumset. Maple has better low end the birch/basswood and a slightly less high end. Too bad I found that out after I bought my birch set I love low end!

Re: Ddrums

Buddy,
Here are three reviews of the ddrum 5-piece punx kit taken from an online retailer.

5 stars -- I love this kit!!!! the bass drum kicks sooo much ass. the problem i had was i was sent a mounted tom arm so it hooked to a cymbal stand rather than the bass drum. i hate the kick pedal though. replacement is a must. the stands are decent. i suggest gettin some moongels. they help. i tuned the drums and they sound great with my zildjian zbt's. very happy. no regrets

5 stars -- awesome sound!! really deep.. snare is extremely loud!! just like i like it. theres so many good qualities for this set, from the rack tom, floor toms, bass drum and snare. hardware isnt bad. really good deal!!!

4 stars -- I owned this kit before, it was great. I always got compliments from the color, and sound. I threw some ambassadors on the bottom, and emperors on the top, and it sounds mint! I also freed up the kick, got some multiclamp for the tom on a cymbal stand, and it sound even better Pros: rim mounted suspension, painted hardware prevents rust, durable wrap Cons: hardware was unreliable at times, wrap bubbled up with heat

Re: Ddrums

You get slightly less low end from Birch than you do from Maple, and you get more high end from Birch than Maple.

For real deep low end and less high end look into a Mahogany kit.

Re: Ddrums

Buddy,
I've been reading up on drum woods, and I withdraw my objection to basswood. Most say that it's a good, inexpensive drum wood, reminiscent of maple or mahogany, although pitched somewhat lower than maple. Sorry.

Re: Ddrums

Huh well thanx for the help guys. The hatdware sounds like crap but I can jack the hardware off of my old set. so no problem their I dont think the basswood would sound bad. I think that it will be ok. Ill put some heads on them. what do you guys think about drumeheads with a muffled sound. doesent Aquarian make tom heahs with a ring around them? And I currently use Ebony Pinstripe. I use to play metal but as of yeaterday I created a new band that plays punk so I need something a lil brighter. but still muffled. confusing right well give me some ideas for those types of heads. tanks
