Cajon-Full of Boxy Goodness.

I am just getting back into playing after many years lay off. I have teamed up with a duo who are looking to expand and do some electric gigs but also some low volume small venues which will not suit a drum kit.

I have, this weekend, purchased a Session Pro Cajon drum and have been playing it all day with a mixture of hands and Zok Slamsticks.

I think I have found a whole new area of interest.

Has anyone else tried a Cajon?

My niece plays the cajon to accompany a singer/guitarist in small venues in the L.A. area.
She loves playing it by hand, although she has never tried the sticks. It really does a great job of adding rhythm to the singer/guitarist's songs; I've seen the tapes. She gets a kick out of it.

If you like cajons then look into an Indie Rock band called One Eskimo (Kandi is the tune I most enjoy). The drummer's name is Adam Falkner and he has a fantastic sound.

Here is a look at the video that introduced me to One Eskimo:

Man, that "Kandi" song has some sad lyrics.

You've been my queen for longer than you know
My love for you has been
Everything step i take
Every day i live
Everything i see

And if i get things wrong
Don't want you to think I'm running away
But i heard from Jo about this guy And i want to know

What did he say?
He called me baby, baby all night long
What did he do?
He called me baby, baby all night long

Why? Why? Why, did you need him?
Where was i?
Just how close to you is he?
Every smile you gave
Every touch you made
Every word you said

And it hurts beyond hurt
It was a love that blinds
And a love that stings
When i heard from Jo about this guy
And i want to know

What did he say?
He called me baby, baby all night long
What did he do?
He called me baby, baby all night long
What did he do?

He called you baby, baby all night long
What did he do?
He called me baby, baby all night long
What did he say?
He called me baby, baby, all night long
What did he do?
He called you baby, baby, all night long

I know he called you babe
All night long

MY TAKE: Like, break out the rum, man.

Well, either he is a stalker, or she is a tramp. Either way it makes for good music!

I have found over the years that I really don't listen so much to the lyrics. Being a drummer my ear is drawn to the overall melody and obviously the rythmic quality of a song.

I can see that.

I have been rehearsing with a band for a couple of months. They asked me to do some backing vocals and the only lyrics that I know are from the one cover that we do.

If the song is well-know, you can always print out lyrics from the Internet.
