DW Eco X drums

Hey fellow drum geeks! I'm looking for some first hand information/opinions on DW's new Eco X birch/bamboo drums. Has anyone spent time playing these kits yet? If so, I'd like to hear your valued opinions on the model. Thanks as usual!

Re: DW Eco X drums

Have seen them a lot on E-bay. Seems as though people/companies are not exactly "bumping" them, because they are DW, but something I can't put my finger on. Maybe just aren't moving for what ever reason.

I havent played them but they sound pretty nice in the video. I'm sure the x shell really gives it a nice deep sound even though the wood is birch/bamboo

Noticed 2 things about this video. (!) My drumming ability is not as good as his. (2) Sounds like any other drum kit of any substanance. I guess I am pretty pessimistic about kits and marketing. Get that same sound out of a lot of lesser priced kits and those that are overpriced. Drum heads. Drum heads. Drum heads. You can make anything sound prretty good with the right heads. A VERY few exceptions.

Re: DW Eco X drums

There is also another thing to consider about the video, it was recorded with a camera, and as im sure you know things sound a LOT different in real life. So it's quite hard to make judgements about the kit from the video. I agree that drum heads can make a cheap kit sound great, my kit is cheap but sounds good because of drum heads, but I've noticed high end kits sound even better. The major difference is the level of craftsmanship though, DW kits are hand made with care and I certainly can't say that about my tama rockstar.

Also the versatility of the drums. I find that a lot of kits don't have a very wide range of sound characteristics. DW's combo in the Eco- X seems to do fine.
And drums are all configured to the drummers taste. Otherwise, they wouldn't make "jazz" kits. It's the wood, and of course the heads and other features that narrow down or pin pint a drums sound range.
