Pimp my drum set

Much like the show that pimps cars, I am planning to customize my drum set. I play in my own basement for my own entertainment with a kit I've been building on for years. A yard sale here, pawn shop there, even a few new drums. I plan on going with a fire department theme (lifelong vocation) so I have gathered fire alarm strobes, alarm gongs, and sprinkler heads (welded to the cymbol wingnuts) I am open to suggestions and ideas for paint schemes and other add-ons that will make this kit unique. "Fire" away any thoughts you may have, please...

Re: Pimp my drum set

I like this whole "pimping" your drumkit thing. Sounds sick!!!

I reckon that a fire paint scheme would be cool. You know like from bottom to top: red, orange and yellow. And you blend the colours together and such.

For lighting, I think, if you can get your hands on any, the fire truck siren. Sure it may get annoying after a while, but it kinda fits with your fire theme.

Hope this helps and good luck =)

PS I'd love to hear if anyone else has pimped up their kit. Seeing what other themes people have come up with would be interesting to hear =)

How about taking an older cymbal and painting it like a dalmatian's coat. Or maybe paint a dalmatian on your bass drum head.

Re: Pimp my drum set

what if you soak your sticks in gasoline and light em up when you start playing

seriously though, you could put hoses over your stands and then instead of welding a sprinkler head onto the wingnut, you could weld a small hose nozzle on. it might get in the way, but it would be cool.
also, you could sew some hoses together so that they would split three ways at the bottom of the stand and if you wanted to, and could figure out the means, you could have the stands standing on hose nozzles, each stand leg sitting on top of one nozzle at the end of each hose.
the threeway hose split would be enough, but the nozzles would be really hard to make with the stand staying sturdy.

i am very surprised that i have now thought of something like this in my life, i never would have expected to. thank you.

good luck, i wanna see pictures when youre done crazy idea man.

Keith Moon used to put dynamite in his bass drum every once in a while (true), so why couldn't you just set the damn set on fire every now and then?

LOL at DTXTREME, i like the sound of dtxtremez idea. maybe u could get some fire hose and put it around the rims of your toms and snare. It would look funny but hey its your theme.

Re: Pimp my drum set

I've been trained to put out fires at the NYC Fire Dept. at Randals Island.

It wasn't easy but I did pass with flying colors. The Fire Dept. is NOT allowed in Power Generating Stations anywhere in the U.S.A.

Most of the fire trainers are Pyromaniacs. They like to light them up and put them out.

Seasoned, you must be an misunderstood artist. I know where you're comming from. Becoming a Fire Fighter is a great career, and don't get me wrong on this now.

Maybe you should leave the Pyrotechnics to the pros before some one gets hurt.

How ever I do like the idea. The drum-kit has to be a bright Chinese Red with sirens a bell and a really loud air horn.

I guaranty you that the next night, there will be all your neighbors holding torches and a linching rope.

Get the hose ready.

Re: Pimp my drum set

Thanks for the ideas, everyone... I would like to go with the flame effect on the shells (perhaps with wraps), but I need to start saving my nickels and dimes. The whole kit has been low budget, and I hope to keep it that way. I have access to quite a bit of used fire department equipment, and I think I can work the hose and nozzle idea in to the plan as well. I will take photos of the steps along the way and share them with you all.
