Im interested in buying a new drum set at a price point of $1500. I would like the set up to be 1 floor tom and one rack tom. It doesnt have to include the snare. I have been looking at the Pork pie little squealer and the Gretsch Renown (both maple). Any other suggestions would be helpful.

its $1500 just for the shell pack, i have cymbals & hardware already. And i'll be playing in home and out occasionally, and i usually play punk (like at the drive in) and hard rock.

I would say get a quote from a DW dealer, if all your getting is two toms and a bass drum 1500 should be enough to get a DW. DW's are extremely customizable and sound great I don't see how you could go wrong with one.

If you're buying three drums for $1500 dollars, I think you can probably afford top-of-the-line drums from any brand.

In the last two weeks I heard Simon Phillips play his TAMA Starclassic Maple kit both in a clinic and in concert. Those drums were awesome. I'd say definitely check those out. You might have to buy individual drums, as they don't have a 4-piece configuration (that I see). That would be my first recommendation, though.

The Yamaha Absolute Maple is a great sounding kit -- it's sold in a larger configuration than you're looking for, but again, I think you could probably afford individual drums.

Those are my two best recommendations.

Lastly, just because they're the best-made drums in the world doesn't mean you like the sound. Play them yourself, and then have someone else play while you listen.

I checked DW drums in different woods, finishes and everything and every time it ends up at over $3000. I just want a bass drum, floor and rack tom. Anyone have any tips?

Any brand you prefer?
That would give us something to work with.
You could also purchase D-Drums Dios STN shell pack (4 piece)
that features a 3 combo wood shell, giving a lot of diversity, uniqueness, and versatility to the drums.
It seems like you have a lot of options to work with,
So I think you should (If possible, maybe look on youtube.com) check out the drums sound, and it will come down to your ears. Get whatever sounds good to you.
With that price range, you probably won't have to worry about durability and quality of the drums.

i was looking at DW. Ill check out the ddrum, but i kinda reallty want a DW set if i can find one in my price range.

Did you check to see that those drums are a 4 piece? The ones you found by DW that where $3000?
