Talking Less pieces more chops!

What's the deal with drummers thinking adding more drums/cymbals/toms to their set is making them a better drummer? seriously...

LEARN HOW TO FREAKIN PLAY!

What do you think? 4 piece and 5 piece are completely reasonable.
there's allot of funky stupid CRAP you can put on your drum-set though.

(Good examples of "funky stupid CRAP " - Slipknot, Dave Matthews drummer)

There I fixed it for ya, instead of deleting it.

So what you mean is that Less is More and that improvising with fewer pieces on the kit could build up your agility.

Now if larger drum kits intimidate you, then check this kit out:

Jim you crack me up! ^^ ^^

4pc or die,

To each his own!

Anyone who thinks having a bigger kit makes them a better drummer is misguided. The only thing that makes anyone a better drummer is practice because afterall you are only as good as your basic skills, period.

If your statement is true then one could argue that if you are only capable of playing a 4 pc then you have less creativity than someone who plays a 7 piece.

Keep it because it is a great topic for discussion, but edit it back to how you had it. There is absolutely no need for the foul language.

Re: Less pieces more chops!

Personally I had to do lots of practicing before I was able to play all different types of genres.

But then to be able to get the right riffs, I had to get more drums and cymbals too.

It wasn't my fault.

I know there are some drummers out there that feel that more is better, but some of them know what their doing.

Ya uhmmm I love both! It also depends on the music you like to play and the sounds you like. I mean if your songs that you play only need a four piece then go for it! But sometimes it's nice to have that large choice in sounds. I have 7 drums on mine. And then on some days I'll take it down to a four piece. So it looks like to me. YOUR being a little "close-minded" No offense

Daaannng TJ! I guess more is more for you bro!
I generally (now a days) play a 1 up, 1 down 4 pc. Have for the past 10 or so years.

Later this month I am ordering a 6 pc: 2up, 2 down kit.

I found that my scaling down from a gigantor TJ' esque set up to the simple 4 on the floor .. my grove became tighter and my fills more inventive.
I am sorta getting the itch to jump on a bigger kit again after having to sell my Yamaha SCBs.
