A little over a year ago my son bought most of was a monster Legend drum set; the kit consists of 20" BD, 14 and 16 FTs., 8, 10, and 12 rack toms, matching 13" and 14" Phosphor Bronze snare drums. The set looks like freaking new and all associated hardware is super-heavy duty 'fer sure! The as-new candy apple red finish looks more like those found on high quality guitars...and little wonder as Ovation did the laquered wood finish.

At the time I mentioned to my son that he should have bought the whole sheebang, but was at first quite content in just having acquired the 16x16 FT., which he really wanted, in addition to the other drums. However, he regreted not buying the monster set ever since and been keeping almost a daily eye on CL in search of the rest of that set. Well, lo and behold...yesterday I was checking stuff on anotther drum forum when I ran into a CL alert notice posted by one of the members...and upon opening the given link came to realize that the Legend kit on sale looked very much like the drums my son now owns, except that the sizes of the 4-piece set are larger (22x18 BD, 18x18 FT., 11x13 rack tom, and 7 1/2x14 snare drum)...and includes couple of cymbal plus snare drum and hi-hat stands, BD pedal and throne to boot.

Anyway...to make an story short (ahem! )...the same guy who originally sold part of his monster Legend set is now selling the rest of it on CL...but will be meeting my son tomorrow night so he can pick it up end take it home. The price of admission? How about $300 for all of that?! Oh, and my son is planning to turn the 20" BD as a gong drum rather that a double BD set up. Crazy? Huhu!...

What wood are the drums? It really sounds great.

How much was the entire thing?

It's a beautiful looking, superbly built, great sounding drum set; and as far as I am concerned it doesn't give any ground to anything else available out there (and we got Yamahas, vintage Tamas, Ludwigs, and Gretsch kits on hand to directly compare to) in terms of sound and construction...whether old or new.
Will ask my daughter to take a few pics for us soon, then post 'em here.
The Legends were built using Maple Keller shells (they look absolutely solid and are some heavy mothers! ); manufacture quality seems flawless.
I believe my son paid somewheres in the $800+ area for the first kit, so will be around $1200 counting the one he's getting tomorrow plus the used Jeff Porcaro model Pearl drum rack, toms and cymbals arms he bought off someone at DFO (the Legends were outfitted with Pearl tom mounts, thus the associated stuff. BDs are virgin, however).

Does that include cymbals?
What kind of cymbals is he using?
