Skins Q? Kickport Q?

I haven't done a lot of experimenting with drum heads so I was hoping to catch some of the knowledge you all have.
Previously, I have chosen thicker, wetter heads to add depth to my shallower toms. However, I am putting together a kit piece by piece and am about ready to be thinking about new drum heads. My pieced together kit is a Premier Signia. I play a combo of blues, classic rock, and folk. My minimalist set includes a 22X18 premier signia kick, and (fingers crossed) my soon to be 16X16 premier signia floor tom.

Q?
How do you feel about Remo Rennaisance heads for both the floor tom and kick? Would a combination of differing heads (top/bottom) be a better approach? Would another head altogether suit my needs better?

Q?
Is the kickport the real deal? I'm not close to a drum shop anymore and have only heard youtube samples.

Re: Skins Q? Kickport Q?

Do you have the standard 45 degree bearing edges or the 30 degree.

The reason I ask is because thicker heads work better for the 30's.

Another fact is what year were they made.

The Kickport works as advertised. I love mine, and the studio guys were impressed also. When I recorded that demo, there was no dampening in my kick.

I'd like to add that I really like the pinstripe/diplomat combo that I am using on my toms, but it might not be for you.

Re: Skins Q? Kickport Q?

I unfortunately do not have that knowledge yet as I don't have the floor tom in my possession. I am going through a Premier dealer here in the states and he is waiting to hear back from his contacts to push one my way. I am assuming it will be a signia from the early to mid 90s and I'm not sure about the bearing edges. I tried to look up what premier was putting out on the market with this model but I couldn't find anything.

The Kickport sounds good but you have to tune your batter side low and make sure you have something directly against the batter head. The reason for this is that you get a little bounce back on you beater if the batter head is tuned to high.
