Alright, so my Coated Emperors are filled with holes and my CS is filled with dents and the like. I had these heads for the first six months I've been playing, and I'm changing them already. During the summer, I played 3-4 times for 30 minutes a week. With school, I typically play every weekend for a hour each day. Is it bad that my heads need to be changed so soon? Also, what do you recommend so my heads last longer?
Well if the drums are at too steep an angle then it is real easy to dimple a batter head. If that is what is happening then you might try tipping them just enough that your sticks don't hit the rims as you play and no more.
Heads that are played heavily (2-3 hours every day or two) could need to be changed as often as every couple months. Were these the heads that came on the drums when you bought them new, and you have only been playing about 6 months now?
I see. I've been wantin to adjust a few things anyway, so when my new heads come in, I'll do that.
I had stock Pearl heads on for 2 weeks until I changed my heads to the Coated, and yes I've only been playing six months.
OK, I was going to say that stock heads tend to be lesser quality than something you would purchase to replace them, but that is not the case here. Emperors are two ply heads also, so they tend to last longer. That being the case I would say it has to be an angle of the playing surface problem.
