Hi Everyone Ok The debate still goes on, and Im going on my years experience and that of Drum techs Ive had and worked with ,Again the Hydralic Heads work well with Acrylic Shells and Stainless Steel Shell Drums since they have a have a layer of oil in between the Heads, Some say not but ,I worked with Bob Gatzen and he was a innovator of the EMAD Head for
Evans and it toned down the overtones associated with those shells ,But really it comes down to you what you like to hear and feel, Some heads are easier to tune and are more durable and find that sweet spot on, Not to many drummers today know about culling the drum head ,taking a new head out of the box then putting the drum head close to your ear holding it on its rim collar with 2fingers and your thumb gingerly and taping it with your other hand near the center and hear its pitch )you should hear a slight ring not a thump. This is a Live Head ,and Good , As you start breaking in your drum heads , depending on how you play or hit your drums, ,Check to see how or if you score your heads,These are Half Baked heads , I prefer to play on half baked heads for recording not new heads, But again personnel choice,
Remo has a Slammin new Bass drum head just came out its the Powerstroke PRO and Its a HOME RUN right out of the Box, in fact It works so well you can remove your internal emadpads or anypad you use inside to muffle your bass Drum ,I use the PowerSonics But Im changing to these new heads , I have several Drum Kits From
Gretsch to
Yamaha Recording Customs , Ford drums , Odery, Brady, On most of them I use
Remo P4 Clears Top and
Remo Clear Ambassitors bottom and resonate Bass Drum Black Powerstoke 3 with a KickPort which I can,t say enough about it is the best innovation along with e new
Remo Powerstoke Pro to come Along, And depending what kind of Music and Venue your playing should help in your decission making, If Your on a limited budget I suggest if possible to buy a more durable head maybe a bit pricier than others but you;ll get more use out of it, also the size of shell you play should also add in the equation of your chice , Anyway I hope this is some help to you,I didn,t mean to ramble on , but us Drummers , well you know we all can talk drums in our sleep Take care God bless
