Tuning Resonant heads

Hey all,

I've been playing on a kit that had the toms set up concert style. I went out and got a pack of G2's and G1's for batter/reso heads. My question is related to tuning the reso heads. I know the concept/theory is that if the reso heads are tuned higher than the batter head, it kills the resonation more quickly (which is what I want). I want a more "studio" kit sort of sound. But, I don't know what the actual steps are to tuning the reso head in this way. I guess I just want to make sure to do it "properly" so as not to mess up my new heads lol.

Thanks for any advice,
L0g1c

Re: Tuning Resonant heads

Get a drum dial to tune the drums within the tuning spectrum and then fine tune to your taste.

This methode save time and hairs from falling off your head.

Re: Tuning Resonant heads

Thank for the tip, but I'm really wondering more about how to tune the rsonant head in relation nto the batter head. Like, what sort of steps would one take? Almost like a step-by-step. As far as actually telling weather a head (batter head, that is ) is in-tune with the drum or not, I don't usually have a problem.

Are you looking for that deep studio sound?

If that's it, then tune them normally and use some res rings.

That's what I do at the studio for recordings. Also the room's accoustics are a huge factor.
