Mapex 500 double pedals?

Thoughts on the lower end 500 series double bass pedals(cant afford the Falcons).....will be a starter set for a first timer that now plays a Gibralter "Intruder"direct drive single.I am not going to take a 2nd note out on my home to pay for the TAMAS,PEARLS...TRICKS etc...just looking for something to learn on around $100.00......and any advice on the steep learning curve...or so I am told.

I would suggest you not to waste your money on any hardware by Mapex. The hardware is low quality at best. I would suggest you save your money. After you save your money, I would suggest the Pearl Demon Drive Pedal. It can convert from a double pedal to 2 single pedals.

Maximus! Been a while since I've seen you around here, welcome back.

I would agree that Mapex doesn't make great pedals, the Falcons are the only ones that really compare to anything else, but otherwise their hardware is decent, and certainly not low quality.

If you're just looking for something for learning, really anything is good. Eventually, (probably pretty soon, depending on how quickly he learns) you will need to upgrade to a better pedal. The better quality, the longer it will last.

Here are some pedals in the $50-$200 range:
Double Drum Pedals & Most Music Gear Ships Free | Musician's Friend

If you can spend 200, I would recommend these:
Taye Drums PSK Double Bass Drum Pedal: Shop Drums & Percussion & Other Musical Instruments | Musician's Friend

Gibraltar and DW make great hardware, too, so look into them.

Butter!!!!I know I have been so lame on not being around and I never posted my Minimus DukusErectus's kit...I have added so much to keep his interest up.His instructors wife is a writer and her fictional novel was published so they both flew the coop and have not heard from him in months. He took my son's snare!!!and left me with an old rusty/dirty snare to use..he was to fix the snare...ohhh well...so I picked up a Pearl Masters sparkle fade 14"X 5 SNARE...OMG...she is sweet, the snare deserves a better kit than the PDP X7 Lime sparkle I picked up for my boy!!!My nephew will help me take picks...I had told Buddy also I would show picks....work has been a beast and I just lamed out and put this forum on the back burner. How is your knew kit brudda?tHOUGHTS on DW 2000's....7000 series?I just cannot drop $400.000 to $500.00 on double pedals for fear that my son or myself will lose interest and go back to single pedals and 16th's we have to work for!Tawk wit ya soon Butter...good to hear from ya and hope you and family are well.

Re: Mapex 500 double pedals?

Sounds like an irritating situation with the drum teacher!! I totally understand, though, things get busy and it's hard to log on to a drum forum I bet that snare looks great with the green though! Sparkle on sparkle has got to give a good effect with the different colors. I bet Minimus is getting pretty good now, a double pedal ought to be a lot of fun for both of you. I'm just finished moving to the east coast from the southwest and it's great so far! Hope you all are doing well too.

I actually use DW 7000s. They are great! I don't know what to use to clean them though... Mine need some shining, too. I'm mostly worried about the left one squeeking lately. I'll do a search for pedal cleaners and lubricators and post back. Just don't use WD40!! It's bad I've heard.
