I've got powerstroke 3's and falam pad on my bd's with standard pearl skins on the front. 6" hole and no muffling. It took me a while to get that great boom but I found it with tuning.

I will however be upgrading to emad and some adult diapers when I get some more funds. They make my sphincter wanna give.

Re: Evans EMAD or Aquarian SuperKick II ?

I just put the Evans EMAD 2 bass drum head on my bass drum (has a muffling ring already on it from the box), and removed the pillow I use to use. The only additional muffling I am using is the Evans EQ pad which touches the batterhead at the bottom.........! I use a Drum Dial for fine tuning my drums and have the batter head tuned at 75 while the resonant head is tuned slightly tighter at 76.

This is the best my bass drum on this particular kit has ever sounded. Yes, the type of head makes a huge difference as well as how you tune the drum. My set is made from birch wood and has an overall fantastic very tonal sound all around the set.

Now get this................I am really quite proud of the sound I get from my snare drum (Ludwig Bronze Supraphonic 6 1/2 X 14) but when your bass drum is tuned to that "thud" sound yet has all the attack you could ever want when striking it.........which the Evans head now gives it........................your snare drum sounds even better ....... must have something to do with one sound over another and how they co-mingle.

Anyway, I am very happy with my Evans EMAD 2 head.............

I just got the Remo Powersonic and it freaking OWNS! I have finally achieved the "right" ballance between BOOM and THUD, with lots of attack on top of it. Its also far louder than anything else that I have tried.

yes i have this as well, and its amazing, no additional muffling required, and it gives a nice big thump though i find tuning is a bit tricky once you get it, its amazing
