Pro-Mark Japan Oak 5A. I've tried the Zildjian dip sticks (haha) as I read in a few places it helped with vibrations on the hands which can be killer. The tips broke off too quickly though. Zildjian makes great cymbals, but not sticks.

I've also tried the Pro-Mark American Hickories and they too break, and slip out of my hands. There is just something about the Japan Oak that seems to work well for me so I've stuck with it.

I have not used my pipe snare sticks on my kit though. Nor the heavy Vic Firth practice sticks. Pipe snare sticks are particular to the pipe snare and the pipe band so I only use them when physically playing my pipe drum.

I use marching sticks. They're usually a bit softer and therefore break more often, but the tone is amazing.

I started with promark 5A nylon tipped, too thick. Moved onto 7A's, felt great but I'm playing hard and the tips kept breaking off. Moved onto Ahead 7A's. The barstads kept falling out of my hand. Bought some "Drum stick grip". the promark stuff was great but cost $50 so I bought some cheaper stuff. $30 and 1 roll only covered 2 sticks so I had to buy 2 rolls. That tape gave me blisters. Started playing with Ahead gloves. Worked well but kept drying out and cracking. Was breaking the Ahead sticks about every 6 months, the drastic lack of bounce back was killing my hands and my gloves were about to fall apart. Decided to go back to wood, tried out the promark 747's. Hands were still hurting from the lack of grip when a friend suggested tennis grip (duh!). $18.50 covers 12 sticks in joyous rubbery perfection that wears out about the same time as the stick.

In summation, Promark, 747, nylon tip with tennis grip is my stick of choice. As displayed in my Avatar.

Zildjian 7A anti-vibe wood tip. I also use the 7A anti-vibe nylon tip and I use ProMark Hot Rods.

Not unless you want to play your kit with a matched set of tree trunks.

Hm, that's what I figured. Marching sticks are so fat compared to the regular sticks. Thanks for the info.

I'm enamored with Vic Firth and have been for entire duration of my drumming life so far. I also support/advocate the use of Vater sticks.

I have recommendation for anyone to take or leave, as you choose: Try Vic Firth signature Buddy rick sticks, they have a white coating and (this is opinion speaking) seem to be or have a nideal width/diameter as well as circumference. They feel incredible, better so far than any other stick I have played with (there have been a few).

I also play Vic Firth sticks and try different models to see which I am most comfortable using. I also like to play with thicker and heavier sticks when warming up.
