Re: What sticks do you use? I always played Pro Mark 5a's or 7a's, recently my friendly drummer adviser from Music Works here in West Auckland pointed out a new size (for me), it are Tama's American Hickory 8A!! They are somewhere between 5A and 7A, a bit different, with wooden tips.
I bought them to try out and I love them.
The only thing, they are a bit short, just under 16 inch, for me that is not a big deal because I like compact kits, but for the "expansive" players, they might be too short.

Re: What sticks do you use? Depends on what and where I'm playing. In my variety band, we usually start the night with a dinner set...light jazz, standards, etc. That starts with Zildjian 7a wood tips (don't like the sound of plastic in cymbals), brushes, blastics. As the night progresses in volume and intensity, I progress upward in stick size. Vater LA 5a, then finally up to Vic 5B. If we're in tight quarters, I might stay with the 5a. If it's outside, or a big hall, I may skip the light lumber and go straight to the 5b. Of course, for rudimental snare stuff, you just can't beat a set of marching trees: Vic Firth Corpsmaster, or Ralph Hardimon, but I wouldn't use them on drum set.

Re: What sticks do you use? Im going out and buying my self a new pair of sticks(I don't know if they sell just tama, but they sound almost perfect, just my friend drums longer then 16" and i wouldn't think he could play those).
I saw some Humongous(i used spell check, it correct?) pair of true line sticks, im going to get some special ordered(I'm not a distributer). some people play with huge kits... I will play with huge sticks. |

Re: What sticks do you use? I've been a fan of Vater for years... Use Xtreme 5a's for heavier stuff and Fusion's for a lighter touch. |

Re: What sticks do you use? Promark TX720W Intruder good all purpose stick with extra length for power.
"The audience will definitely see a stick go flying off into the bassist's eye"
That is a great crowd pleaser and distracts enough for a drummer to recover unnoticed.
Always dropping sticks, it's a good sign that you have a loose grip which makes you play the stick better than holding it too tight.
I keep a spare stick on the kick drum tyom mount and can instantaniously pick it up with out missing any noticible beats in the event i drop stick. Easy enough to keep time on high hat and play snare with one stick.
I made a simple srick holder out of a piece of plastic tube with and end and attached with a metal clamp.
You can buy them. |

Re: What sticks do you use? I generally use Zildjian 5a and 5b dips...feel great and stay put. I recently tried sticks by Hornet. They are quite unique and feel good, but take a while to get used to. I used them on a gig recently and after 2 songs was digging in my bag for the Zildjians. They are quite pricey but look real cool. I have been using the 2b's for pad work to try and get used to them.

Re: What sticks do you use? Bill Stewart Signature sticks are sitting on my kit right now. They were the lightest sticks at the closest drum shop and the purple writing is pretty. Bill Stewart is one bad dude too. |

Replying to earlier post: I did end up buying them Zildjian 5A Dips; and the tip flew of within a month.
My stupidity of trying to play something that is too advanced for me, so I got frustrated and hit one way too hard on the snare. That night I had my drum lesson and my Teacher, Ryan Berg, gave me his old sticks; Vic Firth 5A Teardrop tip. |
