Re: What sticks do you use?

I went to Guitar Center in Natick mass a month ago and for $9.99 each I got 2 bags each with 10 pair of factory seconds, either Vic Firth's or Vaters, not sure, but not Pro Mark. Anyway, I have played for about 7 hours a week for 3 weeks on one pair of nylon tips and have not broken them yet. The edge about 3 inches down is thinned from the crashes and hats, but still strong and not one lose tip! Save your big bucks and grab some.

Re: What sticks do you use?

Well after trying the various sticks I've posted here;

The last pair of VF 5A lost their tips again, and this is on my son's kit which I'm easier on. I can't stand the Regal Tips, too slippery still and bulky (X5B) and crappy leverage. They actually slow me down.

Bought a pair of Vater X5A but they have those large acorn tips, and nice as they feel in my hands the tips make the sticks front heavy. Tried them on my last jam, had to put them aside, the leverage was all wrong and they slowed me down.

So the keepers so far: Pro-Mark Japanese White Oak 747 wood tips (has a Sumo wrestler picture on them). They've lasted thru 3 jam sessions, feel perfectly balanced, don't transmit too much to my hands (still not as good as the softer VF) and I can blaze over the set as fast as I can with them.

Re: What sticks do you use?

Hey guys and gals!
I've tried pretty much every make of stick on the market and decided to go with the Vic Firth 7AN's. These fit real comfortable in my hands and I love the sound of the nylon tip on cymbals. Marvelous! Well Happy wiv 'em!

I bought them to try out and I love them.
The only thing, they are a bit short, just under 16 inch, for me that is not a big deal because I like compact kits, but for the "expansive" players, they might be too short.

Cheers, Harry
Any thing non Tama that feels and plays the same purpose wise? My store would have to buy bulk, I don't like making them spend too much time on me.

Talking Re: What sticks do you use?

Hi Guss,

You must have special powers!
Only a couple of days ago I discovered almost exactly the same sticks made by Regal Tip. They are the Jeff Porcaro Signatures 8A. They are hickories and are totally natural, no finish/lacquer to them. I think I am going to score a pair myself.

I hope your drumshop can get them.
They have the same barrel tip as the Tama's, but you have to check the tips, some of them were a bit rough which surprised me because Regals have normally excellent finishes.

Cheers and happy drumming,

Harry
