Hope that didn't shoot down your excitement about ahead sticks lastditch.
Thanx for the advice,I was never really that exited about them anyway or I would have had a pair by now.I have heard all the same complaints about the stix before.

I used to play with Vic Firth 5As, but they were too costly since i broke em a lot. So what I did was I bought some cheap sticks, they were 20 bux for 9 pairs.....they do break more often...but at that price...I don't mind too much..and for gigs go back to ur reliable Vic Firth's or w/e u like.

I also have a pair of Ahead sticks, the plastic covers don't break very often for me, but they cost like 2 bux a pair, so its not so bad. And I could never see myself breaking the metal stick.

I'd recommend either buying the ahead ones or cheap bulk ones

yeah i thought about using cheap sticks but i don't like the feel of them, and i'd rather practice with what i'm gonna use during a set. also, i've heard mixed things about AHEAD sticks but i've decided to steer clear of them, kinda expensive, and i like the feel of wood, and know it. $20 is a decent amount of money to throw away if i don't end up liking them.

anyway, i used the oak sticks for practice and a gig on wednesday, and I actually love how they feel. they are a little heavier so you get a ton of power out of them, although by the end of the night my arms were dead tired! they still dented up like right away, which surprised me, but they really didn't splinter much, so they deffinatly outlasted the hickory sticks. so for anyone who is having a hard time beating up regular sticks i do reccomend these. i just wanna see how long they do last, i'll let you guys know.

keep in mind guys that it is not just the stick that is a factor here. The angle at which you hit your cymbals and drums will greatly affect the life of your sticks.Just a thought.

well my left one gets splintered like crazy cause of the fact that pretty much every snare hit is a rimshot. then i just rotate them everytime i notice its getting to bad. my cymbals don't do that much damage, i don't have one of those emo/hardcore setups where the cymbals are dead flat, mine are angled nicely. and my toms i only use my tips on, so thats not the problem.

When i was playing rock and using many rim shots i would often get a double life out of the sticks. When the tips fell off a drum stick, it was these sticks i saved and used the butt end to play the snare hand with as it was generally the middle of the stick that wore out, so the tip not needed.

well an update on the oak sticks, one gig and three practices in and i broke them. so i guess i'm going to try thicker sticks, which i really don't want to do.
