Drum Skin "Rings"!

Hi there.

Been looking for these after i used them on my mates kit. All they simply are, are plastic rings that sit on your drum skin around the diameter and reduce the drum vibration of the skin, giving a much clearer crisper sound.

Now i can't seem to find them anywhere. As i'm from the UK could anyone else from the UK help me find them? Or of course if your not from the UK please help, its just i need to be buying and paying in £! Not $ or Euro's.

Anyone use these or have any sort of review?

Cheers Guys!

Aquarian makes "studio rings" and they do a damn good job of dampining the drum without completly killing the tone. Go to the aquarian website and hit the "find a dealer" option.

Put your money away. Simply find some used drum heads in the drum sizes you want (usually just snare) or larger. Grab a pair of scissors, mark out an 'o' ring about an inch wide and cut it out of the old head. A cymbal or any other round objects can be helpful to get exact round.
Try it out, if is too deep sounding when placed on the snare, trim some more off it. If you have a few heads that size you can have a pile of them in different widths for different levels of dampening.
I find them a pain, always losing them so i go without, the ring off the top head is only usually heard by the drummer, a little gaffa tape works just as well and doesn't fly off if you want a more permanent feature.

I agree with Mouse. making your own moongels is alot cheaper. I used to use them but I've learnt that with proper tuning there is no need for dampening of any sort. Think about it, how many pros' have you seen using moongels or tape on their skins? I don't want to start a war here, but I urge you to do some research on proper tuning technique and see how you go. I was amazed how great my drums sounded when I finally figured it out.

Good luck. Let us know how you went.
