Evans vs The Rest....

I believe Evans are great. However, I've tried nothing other than this brand and am quite loyal to them. So I'd really like to gather information, before I reskin my new kit, on the possibility of buying another brand.

I'll try give a helpful answer

Made sense to me, i would go to the other manufacturers sites and research a drum head that has similar characteristics to what you already are using, unless you want a change of drum sound that is. Then if that is the case, some experimenting is needed.
To buy by "brand" name because another drummer uses it, is not a sensible choice because of the variables.
End of line, you should pick whatever heads you like the sound of suited your style of music played, drum sound you like and circumstances you will be playing in be it miked, recorded, or live considering the type of venues.

I suggest to look at what you like and dislike about your present heads and then research the manufacturer sites and weigh up to find something that fits in the ballpark of where you want to go. If your new to drum head selection, stick with tried and true general purpose heads (like what you are currently using, or similar) to cover all bases.

The Aquarian web site has a selection chart to compare similar heads.

Personally, I think you're onto a good thing, but if need to play the field, I'd suggest remo ambasador clear as a substitute. I was playing them before moving to Evans because the pinstripes just went dead too quickly. I then found that the ambasadors go dead quick too but there's a bit more tone to them.

Re: Evans vs The Rest....

I'm using Remo Ebony Ambassadors as my resonant heads and Remo clear pinstripes as my batter heads. The pinstripes have a quick decay which are great for rock bands and the ebony ambassadors I use to take away the overtone. I've also used the aquarian studio heads, but they weren't that great.

I've been considering trying the Evans EC2 for batters and the Evans G2 for resonant, just to switch things up when I receive my new kit. Seems to me everyone likes those heads, I haven't heard any complaints about them.

Aquarians make... terrable batter heads...unless you go get into snairs (a $40 snair head my friend broke sticks on,lm jelous of his sound).

Re: Evans vs The Rest....

Same problem i had i was using remo(1) cheaper (2) when growing up playing in the band jr
high and high school everyone used remo.So my first kit i put Remo on them the pinstripes
went dead too quick also and it got too smooth for my taste then the head burst. So i tryed
the Other Remo ambassador heads, but i found they were not holding up on my toms, or the snare So i gave Evans a try i started out with the clear G2's because they were double ply
and not a lot of overtone. They worked great for me,Then i was talking to someone i know whos has been playing a lot longer that me he said " you like the G2'S, try the coated g2's
and now i have them on our (church) Taye kit, I must say there great.Ive been with Evans for
at least three years now and havent looked back. For the bass i enjoy that overtone ring on the Eq2 head i have a 22" bass looks like a cannon but the eq2 head works great. So try different brands, not just one type try two or three,me after two different brands of the same
name its time to try something else. Also it's a matter of what you hear in your drums what pitch, tone attack sustan you want for the type of music you play.#1 rule use your own ears
its what god gave us,no one can be a better judge than you.Your gonna be playing on the heads you purchase so get whats your ears say's sounds good to you.(and smile)
