Re: Help me with Heads!!!!

Hi dble pdlz, there is sooooooh much to choose from, so I suggest to go for Evans, try G2's and consider coated one's on your toms.
For the snare you mightt want to get something crisp from Aquarian, like the ones in the signature series.
Otherwise try to listen to some, or better, try out yourself some different heads in the drumshop,

Happy chopping!, Harry

I use Evans Hydrolics, not only do they sound very good, they have a cool look, you can see the oil between the batters.

I've had the best of luck with Evans EC2. I'm not sure if it will go with your set the best. But look into them.

Re: Help me with Heads!!!!

I recently got new Remo heads for my kit
Remo Emperor X Coated with Gray Sound dot for the snare
Remo Ebony Ambassador for the bass and toms

Overall I love the sound of the snare gives a nice strong sound and the toms sound amazing as well. Only thing is I had to play around with the tuning on my bass drum but the head is nice and powerful gives a strong bass sound.

Got all the heads for $120 Canadian at a music store, If you don't want ebony ones you can just get the regular ambassadors for a tad cheaper. By the way I have a picture of the black heads in my profile they look quite nice as well

Re: Help me with Heads!!!!

On my toms, I use Evans G2 clears. I played the coated G2s also, and just didn't like the sustain... it was too much, especially for a studio, but that is also just my sound preference. I use Evans G1 clears for the resonant heads, and the combo gives me the sound I want on my maple shells.

It really comes down to what you like best for the sound you want.

Re: Help me with Heads!!!!

Evans G2's would be great for you. (1) double ply stronger so will last longer,(2) they really
make the toms sing, trust me on this one. Go Evans coated G2's and you will not regret it
Also the coating last a lot longer than on a REMO head, well Evans bake there heads a little
longer than others, and then they apply another coat on top of that one.For your snare i think
you will love the Evans ST series, OR the AR(armid head) Morgan Rose uses that head on his snare.Well i read that in modern drummer. the st(super tough ) heads the durability is high
and the tone is bright they pack two layers of 7.5 film on them.Trust me there strong and will
cut threw and type of music. for bass try the GQ2 clear i had on on my other kit,it gives a very
define sound and it has a overtone control ring on it also plus it's strong. So give Evans a try
Ive try ed other heads but i like Evans the best Ive been using Evans for three years now and haven't had any trouble.I like to change my heads every year,Some do it in shorter time,me I save my money and after a year i change all my heads(that's just my style)I know how much all my heads will cost and i save up the money all year long and just get them for the holidays
your biggest purchase will be your bass drum head, just change the beater head on your bass
drum. the others you can take your top heads and put them on the bottom(if there not in too bad shape) and the new ones on top.Oh for the snare,on the hazy side(bottom) use a Evans
300 its better you dont want you bottom head too weak and you top head strong.Try that
i you wont be sorry.Like i said Evans works best for me.
