Drum Racks

Hi,this is my first time here and I have to say, I dig the website!

I have never used a rack before, I have always just relied on cymbal stands. I'm getting to the point where I can't add anymore cymbals because the stand clutter is just too much.

I'm looking for a rack that would fit 3 rack toms, and most (if not all) of my cymbals.

Cymbals: 21"ride, 18"crash, 18"china, 16"crash, 12"splash, 10"splash, 10"china splash. 7 total, excluding hi-hats and future additions.

Kit: Buy Pearl Export 8-Piece Double Bass Drum Set online at Musician's Friend

Also, while were talking hardware; what is a good replacement for a hi-hat stand. I can't really position the hi-hat where I want it without having the pedal be in an awkward position. I have seen some drummers having a remote hi-hat. Would the hi-hat be clamped on the rack? How would that work??

Anyways... The main concern I have when looking at rack systems, is that I'm not sure if the clamps will hold both my toms, which need a larger opening, AND my cymbals which are obviously much smaller. Also keep in mind its a double bass kit.

Here are a few I've been looking at: See what you think!

I like this one, but I don't think it will be able to reach far enough towards my floor toms to be able to hold my ride, china, and china splash up on the right side of the kit. Could I add another smaller rack over there to compensate?

I thought there was one other Pearl one I was looking at, but I can't seem to find it.

Anyways! I know this is long, and for those of you who actually made it through this, I thank you!

Any input is greatly appreciated!

-Justin

Re: Drum Racks

ROFL!!! reminds me of mine... Gebralter, cheep in cost high in quality.
Im looking to buy a rack, so far a fairly universal guess for about what you want could be around $3-400 help correct me.
Also play cymbals raised... it saves room. my sig can hint you why im wanting one.

Re: Drum Racks

for the hi hats... there is a part where you can fold up your stand and clamp it to the rim of a bass left or right... proferably i would just go double pedal.

Re: Drum Racks

I'm in a very similar position friend. 7 peice, double bass pearl export. I used to use gibralter. Good quality, very sturdy, but it took forever to setup and tear down, so I traded in for some stands and clamped arms.

Then I discovered the pearl dr-80. Very simple design, no risk of clamps slipping (unlike the round gibralter). Very cheap, lightweight, and when the shows over, you just take everything off, fold it up and throw it in the car. It's the best hardware purchase I've made by far. The four clamps that come with it will only clamp pearl stands, so that will cover your tom holders, but the icon clamps are only ten bucks extra and they will clamp anything.

Don't be fooled into buying the add on if you have a double-bass kit. I use the standard three section unit and it works just fine.

As for your hi-hat issues, i'd seriously think about getting a remote stand. You can put the hats and the pedal anywhere.

Look back soon and I'll post some photos for you.

Re: Drum Racks

Here's where you can find photos of my pearl dr-80.

adamhatesit's Photos eSnips Folder

1 and 2 just show where I've placed it. 3 show's what I did with the hi-hat so I didn't need the extra section. 4 illustrates the hinges and gives you some idea of how they fold and 5 shows the two different clamps they use. The black one is the cheap dr-08 that can only hold one size. Thankfully that size is quite universal (that one is currently holding a tama cymbal stand).

Good luck bro, let us know how you get on.
