Power Wrist Builder DrumSticks

12.02.07

Hello everyone,

I would like input regarding the practicing value of metal drumsticks, specifially the "Power Wrist Builders". I am seriously considering buying a pair to aid in strengthening my wrist and forearm. They look impressive, seem practical, and even though they are expensive they are a lifetime investment. Thank you for your input....

No way I would spend that much on sticks...if I did want somehing like that, just drill/hollow at a hick pair of sticks and fill em' with something like sand or something. Or if you can find some smaller weights, slide them in there.

Yea, we always just add the weights that go around the bats when ever we're next up for bat, makes teh bat feel like nothing.

Re: Power Wrist Builder DrumSticks

Whoa, hang on! I had a pair of metal drumsticks and they were the biggest rip off ever. First, If you understand how a drum stroke works. When you hit a drum you are using Type II (or fast twitching) muscles in your wrist and hand. If you work out a Type II muscle with metal sticks, a type II muscle turns into a type I or (slow twitching)muscle. A Type I muscle are a lot stronger but much much slower. Thats exactly what happened when I used metal sticks. I used them for 6 months a while back and they totally set me back in speed and control. I could hit harder, but my speed around the set really slowed down. I got really frustrated and researched the muscles used in a drum stroke.
I don't know of any drummer, novice or pro, that uses these sticks. If you play drumset, get a pair of marching sticks to warm up to and run rudiments with, but nothing heaver.

Re: Power Wrist Builder DrumSticks

There's somethin I didn't know. I don't think weighted sticks would be bad for warmups though...iono, always seems to help me playing my set after drumline practice after school or somethin. Heck, last year I just did drumline stuff...got a new set and daayuum the sticks I used seemed light and just was able to get round faster/play faster I guess. But I do think there'd be a limit to the weight...A- denting your heads B- making your muscles...to big. :P

How about weighing the sticks down with rubber bands(like a rubber band ball!)you can weigh them and if u dont like them... take them off.
