Re: When you break a stick...

I either keep them or use them to start a fire.

I typically keep them, and once I get a resonible amount I make it into 'artwork' (a wall hanging display). For a college student it is cheap decorations.

Re: When you break a stick...

In the winter time, my broken sticks help keep the band warm. Our band practices in one of our guitarists garage, which he heats with a woodburner, so....into the fire they go! And I go through alot of sticks, so I must be doing something wrong

Re: When you break a stick...

i used to keep the pieces until i ran out of sticks, then i would tape them back together. actually, i still do that, but only when i have to. i try not to, but when i only have pieces and tape, it works. sometimes i stab old drum heads with them. it makes a pretty cool sound on a snare

sadly, i have re-broken all my broken taped sticks and now i am down to two tipless, splintered pieces of wood that i cant call drumsticks. it sucks. i ordered a 12 pair pack from musicians friend, but its not here yet... i never realized how important sticks are until i have gone without them for a couple weeks

Re: When you break a stick...

I used to wall mount them with blu-tac but then I started breaking a lot more and before long it was no longer practical. Just chuck them in the normal garbage, don't bother recycling it unless you're going to put it in the garden waste bin.

Only keep a broken stick if it's significant, like your first stick broken playing your first gig or something. Then it's awesome, otherwise it's just clutter and sooner or later you'll be dying to throw it out.

Re: When you break a stick...

I use them to make stands, and they come in handy. my 2nd floor tom is actually a 1 side skinned snare drum with shell, with a bucket supported by broken drum sticks on a table. It works well! And one of my cheesy stands was a tripod with the top off with a broken stick on top where the cymbal would go.
