So yea, playing set I use nylon tip. Reason being, any wood tip sticks I've used, well the tips always chipped off...cause of that they dented my heads being I didn't see they were chipped till after the fact. So I basically only buy nylon tips now which every...maybe 1 in 10 sticks crack off after a while but I see if the tips gone one them so it isn't all that bad. But yea, nylon tips work for me and I don't go through sticks so fast so I'm happy.
Anyways, friends of mien that are drummers also get on me about using nylon tips and saying how bad they are...dent heads, mark cymbals...hell even just cause they're promarks =P
Denting heads...yea, no heads of mine dented cause of them.
Marking cymbals...yup that's true...but iono, I won't say wood tips didn't mark em' either with the gloss finish n' such, but I could care less, they still sound good to me so yea.

So, what kinda tips are you using?

I use both. Nylon Vater Manhattan 7A on my E-drums and Bopworks Birdland model on acoustics. I've used the nylon on acoustics too and have never had a problem with them breaking or ruining heads, etc. That has to do with striking the drum incorrectly, IMO, not the stick tips. The nylon are not great for jazz--the Bopworks sound great on my Bosphorus.

personally nylon tip - lighter sound on ride for example... and also the "chip off" problem with the wooden tip

Vic Frith 3As wood tips I haven't used nylon tips in a lot time, but when I did they were a pain in the butt. I sucks playing in the middle of a set and have your snare tone go to crap because a nylon tip fell off.

I have at least 1 pair of half headed 5as, i have been practiceing for months now with one pair of unmatched nylons right hand has red ducktape and is heavyer!! sounds great with my AA metal-X ride!!

I will usually use nylon tips cause of the whole chipping problem, but i do like wooden tips, i personally think they sound better and feel better, but thats just me

Stick tip type really depends on the kind of music you are playing.
Wood tip= softer quieter more pleasing for soft jazz,etc.
Nylon tip= louder, brighter, harder sound for louder music of any type. Nylon will obviously last much longer. If you are a drum beater rather than a drum player
You might as well order nylon.
