I Need Help, On The Throne

No I don't need a bathroom assist...

...A major decision will have to be made to get a throne for my kit. Considering most thrones I've seen are like $120 - $180, I'm getting pretty nervous about pickin' one up. I'm a heavy guy weighing in at around 260 lbs on average, so I don't wanna be bending legs and fall flat out on me bum-bum. So durability is on the top of my list.

Since I've been started drumming I've never had the luxury of owning a drum throne. I've always had a broken office chair without a back that I swivel sideways so my legs don't catch the corners. So on a very serious note, how important is your throne to you, and what kinds of things make a throne better and not just more luxurious in your opinion?

Re: I Need Help, On The Throne

I got a Roc-N-Soc hydraulic throne (tractor seat) last year for Christmas, and it has been like night and day (replaced a Pearl Roadster that had broken down after about 5 years). They ain't cheap; I think mine was in the $150 range, but so are all the other good ones, for the most part. But, to me, reliability and comfort is huge.

Mine gives just a little bit when I move, so if I have my arse even just a bit off the seat, when it comes back down it doesn't just smack me... the throne gives (hydraulics) like a shock absorber. Couple that with the fact that the legs are double-braced, and you shouldn't be doing too much damage regardless of weight.

I myself am pretty tall (6'3" / ~1.9m) and this throne goes all the way up to 29" (~74cm), which is higher than anything I'd ever previously had. I'm all-legs, so that extra height has allowed me not to have to set my drum heights at crazy settings, and it has made my footwork better overall.

I have something like this one:

(You can see a shot of mine in the kit library, too, from overhead/behind.)

Looks nice. I've heard good thing about Roc n' Soc. I'll have to see what they have available.

Last time I looked in your bathroom, the TP was on the left.

Roc- n-soc is the only way to go when you are looking for a good throne.I will be trying to purchase one for our church soon.It gives that little bounce that you need and you will not have to work so hard on your kick .I say yes to Roc-N Soc
