Any tips on securing second bass pedal?

I'm in my basement with my drumset, and every once in a while my double abss pedal slides halfway across the length of the set. There are velcro strips on the bottom that came with it, and two adjustable spikes that point down and away from the drum throne; designed to dig in and prevent sliding. Unfortunately velcro and metal spikes don't do a damned thing on cement.
I've seen the drum rugs, and some thin rubber pad that's supposed to go under the pedal, but what else can I do? Right now I'm using a second snare stand setup behind the back of the pedal. The rubber foot sets on the lip in the rear of the pedal and presses down a little bit... but it still moves occasionally.

What's the best way to prevent the pedal from slipping?

I assume you're talkign about the left pedal, the one not clamped to the bass drum. When I used to play double bass I used some heavy wire (like from a coat hanger) or zip ties to lash the pedal to one of the legs of my hihat stand. Did the trick prtty well.

You would be assuming correctly. I was hoping for a product solution, rather than a homemade temp fix... but it might be a good recommendation until I find something else. Thanks.

What does everyone else use? This has to be a common problem. Am I gonna have to spray 3M spray adhesive to the damned thing, or duct tape it to the floor, lol?

Have you though about getting a cheap throw rug and putting it under the set to give the pedal spikes something to bite into?

Re: Any tips on securing second bass pedal?

You are working with a basement here...
A rug would help... even some rubber matting. But I would be concerned about mold or if anything could get up under the rug.

If you have a way of getting some wood or metal you can make a drum riser. Having one of those you could either strap all gear to the riser, or bolt them into the riser.

The only bad thing about zip ties is removing them if you are going to play out. Since it is a temporary fix though it just might work.

You could attempt to put something heavy in front of the pedal, like a guitarist, which might work. Or if you have small children they could hold it in place for you.. lol

If you want something small to use I would get a piece of metal, shape it to how you want the bass drum pedals. Drill some holes for the spikes and invest in some high grade velcro... Not the cheap shoe brand but the hard plastic ones. Then you have a bass drum plate that will work on any bass drum you can go to. Your pedals would be portable this way. And if you got real funky with it you could add some rubber feet to the bottom. That little step there may help increase the resonance of the bass drum... Since the bass drum would only have the two legs of the bass drum and then the 3 or 4 rubber knobs on the underside of the plate touching the floor. Wow I like this little idea.

A cheaper rug under the set wouldn't really do the trick. The mold that CJDG was mentioning is exactly what happened to my spare car seats that are sitting ten feet from the set, so I guess a rug probably woulnd't last very long. Rubber matting might do the trick, but like the idea of the metal bracket. Still there has to be a better way.

IDK man... suction cups, maybe even attaching that high grade velcro to the pedal and directly to the concrete floor.... You can set something heavy in front of it.. but that doesn't really help.
You might just get away with some form of a clamp that would attach to the hi-hat pipe and then to the slave pedal... But then you would need to have it pretty tight so that it doesn't move.

Yeah... it's really a pain in the ass subject to deal with. I'll come up with something and let you guys know what I did. Maybe I'll have some kind of a product to market, lol.

Re: Any tips on securing second bass pedal?

1. Keep a rug under your kit.
2. All bass pedals have pins that screw sown to help hold the pedal in place - Use them.
3. Put some velcro strips on the bottom of your pedal.
4. Try playing your double bass pedal instead of smashing it.
5. If you do all of the above, the pedal will not move around.

So basically the only thing in your list of things to do that I'd need is to get a rug...

...Sounds simple enough, just gotta replace it every six months due to mold buildup, lol.
