Angry I've had it!!!!! New sticks please

That's it!! I can't take this crap with my Pro-mark sticks any longer! No matter what I do, the freaking heads will not stay on!!

So I'm changing brands.

my preferred size is 747 rock but I like 7A as well. I'm willing to go with wooden tips but if they chip too soon I will hunt you down and rape your dog.

So any suggestions?

Re: I've had it!!!!! New sticks please

haah, my tips stay on fine. Obnly thing I dislike about promarks is the the sticks chip/splinter off when rimshotting so my drum carpet gets littered with wood splinters
Umm, vaters are really nice...iono, I've started playing with their 5a's or b's, can't remember, but I like em'.
zildjian dips are ok too but not my first choice.
besides those, I really love innovative perc. marching snare sticks...haven't used any "standard" sticks by them though, but yea...marching ones are amazing.]
After all them all I can think of are ahead sticks..but they tend to damage stuff if care isn't taken(replacing sleeves)

Hi Skinslapper,

I just had a look at some sticks I did not see before, here at my local music shop in Auckland NZ. (musicworks)
They were Aquarian sticks, called graphite lights, they come in the 5A and 5B size. there is also a power-sleeve variation, you can have a look at them at the aquarian website.
I tried them (the lights) and I found them surprisingly good.
I do not use nylon tips, but as you do use nylon tips this might be the answer for you.
I do not know if you can get them "over the ditch" but I think it might be worth a try. If you cannot get them, I am sure that I can facilitate something from here.
I think the price here in NZ was in the low $30ties, but I have to check.
Quite a bit of money for one pair but hey, if they going to last it's worth it.

Cheers and happy drumming,

Harry

Yea,I'm guessin you're talkin bout these...
Buy Aquarian Formula X10 Drumsticks with Graphite online at Musician.com
I thought they were more or less a "practice" stick than anything.

I like Premier 7A sticks best. I've never, yet, had a head come off,.... or a stick break...but I'm not sure that's something I feel comfortable admitting. Maybe I should whack them harder on the edge of those cymbals!!

Re: I've had it!!!!! New sticks please

Nice dig Alison very nice indeed. Okay so you're all awsome for your feedback on this one. I went to my local store where the uy running the place said that he had met Mr. big boss Promark and said he would put in a complaint for me, which he said should result in some free sticks (WOOHOO!!).

He also said that heat could be my issue as nylon has a habit of warping under heat, so he recomended a pair of silverfox sticks SilverFox Percussion - Drumsticks . They use a tip made from Delmar (the plastic that plectrums are made from), which apparently won't stress under heat. So I recjon I might have to try some of those.

I'll have a look into those carbon ones as well. Thanks again!!

Why Not Go With The Best. Use Regal Tip.

Re: I've had it!!!!! New sticks please

You've gotten some great responses to your dilema.
However, I've been using ProMark forever (seems like) and I had a similar problem, occasionally, when I was using 5Bs.
Years ago, when they first introduced the 808 Billy Cobham series, I checked them out and instantly switched. since then the problem hasn't recurred.
There are a couple of reasons I like them over the 5Bs:
1) approximately the same weight and diamter as 5Bs
2) less taper so that the diameter is larger, closer to the tip (helps on cymbal-induced stick breakage)
3) the tips are circular, instead of tear-drop or oval, which (too me) gives a better response

Just thought I'd chime in.

Re: I've had it!!!!! New sticks please

I switched from Pro Mark... I think back in like 1996/7. I was a die hard user of the 747 series stick. Though I prefer a wood tip to nylon. The stick I settled on after a bunch of trials through hot sticks/aquarian/silverfox/regal tip/etc... was Vic Firth Buddy Rich series... The stick rebound and how it sounded on the drums/cymbals were unmatched.

I've since modified my playing style, I'm more efficient, and hitting A LOT harder. I switched up to a Vic Firth Thomas Lang series after another trial run through many stick types.
The specs: A large shaft and oversized tear drop tip, hickory. L = 16 1/8", Dia. = .650"

So far they are heavy and I am building my stamina up... but they sound great and are a lot more durable than the buddy rich. I was finding that with the buddy rich model I'd get maybe two hours play out of them before I would crack them right down the wood grain.

Now before anyone starts complaining about me sticking wrong I'd like to point out that I have been drumming for over 20 years and decided to spend the last few months with intensive study in sticking methods... such as Moeller, gravity blasts, germanic, american, etc... I have been trying to add tools to my belt.
