In the market for good, basic bass pedal So right now I'm using the pedal that came with my cheapo drums. Not bad, not great, but after playing on 2 different pedals at my instructors house, I just have more controll and power on his (One a pearl, the other i'm not sure, but the footboard is as wide as a boat compared to the pearl one). I"m not looking to spend to much, as Ii'm stll learning, but if I buy something I want it to last me a few years you know? The only way I'd get a double bass is if
A) It wasn't much more without sacrificing quality
B) Playing on a double bass pedal would help me with my high-hat foot technique.
While someday I may get a double pedal, and I do like some metal, its not something I'm interesting in learning right now, or do I see using a whole lot with the musicians I"d currently be playing with (Although I love me some old metallica and can not wait untill I can drum .....And Justice for all)
I'm going to guess I can't go wrong with pearl, but would love any suggestions. (BTW, I'm 27 and have a pretty good job, so feel free to suggest something more pricey if you trully feel its worth the extra money)
Thanks everyone |

Re: In the market for good, basic bass pedal I've got a Yamaha Pro pedal that I'm very happy with, and it wasn't a lot of money. I paid about $50.00 at guitar center. There are others that are better but they cost about twice as much, or more. Check out the Yamaha line I think you'll be happy with it and it won't break the bank. |

Re: In the market for good, basic bass pedal If you are sticking with the tried/true method then I can't help but recommed the Ludwig Speed King. It isn't very expensive since it is an old design but man I love that pedal. The pedal is direct drive style... so no chain or strap to worry about. You lose out on a little bit of features... but I never thought it needed them to begin with. |

Re: In the market for good, basic bass pedal I have a 9410 Yamaha single, and just scored the other side (right) to make it a double on ebay. The stock is the left as the connector hooks onto the right of the frame. I got the right side for $45 plus shipping. Sweet deal. I like it. I also like the 9000 DW, it's as sweet as can be. The 7000 is very good and the 5000 is pretty good. Axis are excellent, and I am not a pearl fan. My suggestion is to hit a store with a large drum department and have at it. Go on your lunch break on a weekday and I'm sure they will open a box or 2 for you to try. Good luck. |

Re: In the market for good, basic bass pedal I ended up just going with a pearl P-120. It was $50 at musicians friend, and wow, I think the thing is amazing. I can't even imagine a higher end pedal. It just goes to show how much junk the pedal that came with my set was. I can't believe how easy it is to make adjustments on it. Changing the beater angle takes seconds on this. It took 5 - 10 minutes on my old pedal! I haven't spent a whole lot of time setting t up, but I feel that if I spend the time with it, I can get it perfect for how I play.
I would recommend it for anyone who but a cheap beginners set and looking for first purchased pedal. |

Re: In the market for good, basic bass pedal I've noticed that comfort seems to be you preference. Get off the drum throne and go to the store. Tryout all the kicks. My son and I are both drummers, it seems to run in the family. His preference is the DW 9002 bdl kick. I like to use two DW 7000 single kicks. Like I said it's a matter of comfort. Which ever you try at the store and you l like, buy. Alot of the kicks today are quite durable. Good Luck. |

Re: In the market for good, basic bass pedal If you want a good Bass pedal I use the Pearl Eliminator it comes with a few different cams so you can actually go much faster than just a regular pedal it's not that expensive I have it a few years already and no problems at all. Most pedals can only go a certain speed no matter how fast you move your foot with these cams you can go much faster once you change them, sounds crazy but it's true. GOOD LUCK SLINGERLAND |
