Drumsticks

Good Morning. How would I know what sticks are right for me?

Re: Drumsticks

Sticks are named for their type/performance.
There isn't a magic pair that will go handy for all occasions either.

I have a pair I use for jazz/blues/progressive and a different pair I use for rock.

Maple is less dense than hickory so you can get bigger sticks which weigh less
hickory is standard for the most part... vibration reduction and all.
oak is heavy and solid... it doesn't give much but is very durable.
there are also different exotic woods...

best bet is to go into a percussion store and fire questions away. You may find that later you have a certain brand you favor.
