Re: cowbell and clave

haah, not a person who dabbles in latin style stuff...wish I did play more like it but yea. Here's a coupel things a person could easily start off and begin working around/adding to it.
Walfredo Reyes Jr.
Guess I could list some vids that stand out, but a little lower on this page you'll see latin grooves n stuff which I guess I'd look at first...
DRUMMERWORLD - Drum Clinic

Re: cowbell and clave

Mr. Mind Drummer got it right. But it's not only Afro-Cuban cooking here. It's also Hispanic or in my term Boriken (Taino original term), (Boriqua in Spanish) It's a combination of a five beat on the left foot combined with 3,2 beat with the right hand and complementing it with a 4 beat with on the bass. Theft hand keeps the timing on every fourth beat.

Check out also El Negro De Cuba, Selia Cruz, even Gloria Estefan's "Alma Cribena", (Caribbean Soul),
Eddie Palmieri, Hector Lavos, and manny others beats.

You may also want to look up some Salsa Tablature for free on the internet.

Manny Blessings and Happy drumming.

I don"t understand bouncingstick. Do you have a clave attached to a left foot bass drum pedal? I saw a guy play a cowbell that way. He seemed to play standard latin rhythms with his hands but varied the foot pattern so that some of the bass drum beats were played on the cowbell. He dropped out the standard hi-hat "chick." If I can find the video again I'll post it.
