Re: Need Drumst Help

Ah welcome to the reality of drums. They don't always sounds like the recordings.

Just make sure they aren't touching at all and try tightening your snare wires a bit, but they will always react to other noises in the room. That's just something you get used to.

Re: Need Drumst Help

Drummer42, hit "search" and type in "snare buzz" and you'll find your answer. I think it was the second thread that had some interesting comments. Like many questions, you get inconsistent and contradictory opinions from other drummers, but hey, take what you want and leave the rest! The inconsistency I noticed was that some drummers say to tighten the snares and some say to loosen them!

Re: Need Drums Help

Drummer42, I agree with Slingerland59 with the inconsistent answers, this may be due to...there are several reasons to cause the buzz. Issues that I have had of this nature have also included the snare/tom tuning. When the snare and a tom are tuned similarly they give off "sympathetic vibrations". Plain English the two drums are tuned too similar in pitches. Without actually listening to your drum or seeing it in person your problem could be any of the suggested problems or a combination of several. All suggestions could be helpful depending on your needs, trial and error of the suggestions til you find the right combination.

Good Luck......try searching the web as Slingerland59 suggested...lots of tuning suggestions out there

Talking Re: Need Drumst Help

Hi Drummer 42,

As said by others there is quite some stuff about this allready on this forum, to which I also contributed.
I only want to add this: The ideal snare sound is not easy to achieve so why go and compromise that for the sake of a tom?
You will use the snare much more than the tom, and the buzz will only be iritating when you only play the tom.
When the drumkit is in full play you might not even be able to pick it up!
Most drummers know this "evil" and have decided (like me) to just live with it.
In a live gig situation it is absolutely not noticeable for the audience.

Cheers and Happy drumming

Harry

Re: Need Drumst Help

I've noticed that only my 14 inch snares do this. Always. But I've had a couple of 13's (Pearl Joey Jordisan signature in 13x6 and pork pie 13x7 little squealer) and I've never had the slightest problem.

Maybe it has something to do with even number sizes of toms and snares? Thats my theory.
