Re: Homemade DIY Drum Rack?

Have to agree dawg!!! I owned a Gibralter rack along with Gibralter hardware. I hated both. The cymbal stands were good at first,..but the gromets that tighten the hold setting in ALL of the stands ended up either swelling or some kinda crap...which made it hard to fold em all down and set up every time...I got rid of all of them. The best hardware I have ever used is Pearl. And I have a Pearl Icon Rack...square tubing, but it's curved also. I've had it for a few years now and I think I paid $400 or so for it. Think about it,...the clamps on the square tubing will not slip on ya..ever, even years down the road with time and torture...lol. Mine is still in top notch shape and not to mention how awesome they make ya set look.

Re: Homemade DIY Drum Rack?

I've been using two Gibraltar GRS-350C for the past 4 years. My son plays Industrial, and I play Free Style everything for the past 50 years. Even got the wheels and replaced the rubber feet. The wheels have locks. The clamps need to be really tight. Never had any problems with this double rack Gibraltar system as of yet. It takes quite a beating. Needed the wheels for cleaning the stage every so often.

The square rack type sounds quite interesting. Think I'll go to the store and check them out.
If it's a permanent fix that you guys are looking for, ever think of tack welding the clamps in place?

Sometimes DIY racks can become more costly and time consuming than just buying one.

If you've got the time and the dime, go for it and let me know how it turns out.
Please send me some pics of it and if your successful, don't forget to get a patent, some one may steal your ideas.

Re: Homemade DIY Drum Rack?

I purchased a two year old Gibraltar rack from a guy on ebay a year ago and have listened to some people complaining that the mounts slip and things end up moving about.

As I said, I've had this rack for just over a year now, and the other day, me and the missus had sex on my kit. It's a seven peice w/ 5 toms and every single mount held her entire weight (6st 7lbs) without shifting an inch.

I will not have a bad word said about gibraltar.

Shut it. ^_^

Re: Homemade DIY Drum Rack?

i dont really know much about this, but if round tubes slip, but offer more ease in tom positioning, and youre gonna build a rack, then what if you got round tube but put a groove or grooves in it for the clamps, so that the clamps wouldnt slip?

like i said i dont know anything about this and its just a thought, but maybe itll help
