Bass Drum Converter Kits

I am looking to purchase a converter kit as a gift and have located one made by PEARL and one made by TRICK Percussion. The Trick is about double the price. Is there a difference in quality?

Thanks.

Pearl are renowned for good hardware, I don't think it'll pose a problem.

Re: Bass Drum Converter Kits

I researched Trick Drums and they make their drums out of the same material airplanes are made out of, so I would only imagine that their Bass drum converter kits are made out of the same material that's why the price is so high.

I'm sure the pearl one would work just fine. I doubt that the Trick is worth the price.

How can you say that if you don't know anything about Trick products.

Re: Bass Drum Converter Kits

Slingerland--wow that assumes alot--he didn't say he doesn't know anything about Trick products-- just that he doesn't think there can be enough of a difference in quality to justify such a significant price difference... And I happen to agree with him.

Trick makes great stuff. They make hi-end pedals--probably the most expensive on the market followed by Axis. They make great snare throw-offs. They make nice Snare drums. All of that said, they are DANG expensive in some places where they don;t have to be-- like the conversion kit. DW makes one too, and it's still less than 2/3 the price of the Trick one I saw. So, tell me how price makes it better??

I have a acquaintance that bought a Chevy Trailblazer used for $35k, I saw the same model a week later for sale with less mileage for $18k... He said his was better. Tell me why the expensive one is better? So he can brag how much money he spent??

To the OP save your money--buy the Pearl. Take the money you saved and buy a cymbal or a new stand or some hot rods.. maybe new heads...

Re: Bass Drum Converter Kits

Don He just said he doesn't think but he doesn't know, so therefore if he doesn't think he should know before he says something he obviously doesn't know what trick drums are made of and probably that's why the converter kit costs that much but I bet he doesn't know that either. As far as your friend I did the same thing as your friend and the answer is very simple. In 2002 I bought a SUV for $33,000 my friend bought the same model for 8k less But my SUV is and was better do you know why?? It's the same model just I have every imaginable option available
4WD all kinds of packages that is optional ,for that model that's what he was telling you.Think about it I also SOLD CARS SLINGERLAND

Re: Bass Drum Converter Kits

Slingerland--given all options are the same-- how is the more expensive one better? Besides getting a big sucker on the hook I see no reason to buy an identical car for more money... You sold cars-- you should know this...

Re: Bass Drum Converter Kits

Don I just read your recent post and to tell you the truth I don't think you have purchased many cars. If you go into a dealership to buy a car and let's say you want a Chevy Silverado Truck one Truck sells for let's say $22,000 that exact same model next to it sells for $37,000 do you know why?? The $22,000 model Silverado has No 4 wheel drive it has a regular cab the higher priced model has 4 wheel Drive and an extended cab THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE IS OR WAS $8,000 alone
The extended cab was thousands more as well. Compare this to many things and you will see things in a different light. And one more thing that guy that wanted to buy the converter kit, I don't remember him saying he wanted to save money to buy himself any cymbal stands or drum heads I think you made that up.You Know try one day when you want to buy something try using all your money on one thing instead of saving a little for something else and see how you feel, I bet you'll feel glad you did. TRY IT GOOD LUCK SLINGERLAND

Re: Bass Drum Converter Kits

I own my cars and my house outright-- and it does feel great...

Back to the OP... I looked harder at the Trick conversion kit, and it is a piece of right-angle steel with a knurled post pressed into it, and an LP Claw to grasp the rim of the floor tom. Looks like something you could make at home if you felt industrious... Couldn't find a pic of the Pearl converter on their site, but if they are doing anything even remotely different than what Trick is doing (adapting other people's products to make their own) then get the Pearl. The LP Claw was designed for mics and small accessories to mount to the rim of your drums-- but to support a kick drum? I dunno....

You can buy the claw for $24.95 at musician's friend. I bet the right angle iron is about 10 bucks. The post is less than 10.

Gibraltar makes one--it includes a tom mount for a rack tom to connect onto the floor tom, spurs for legs, and a pedal mount-- far more thannt he Trick one offers for their $129 price tag. Here's the detail page:

And here is the Gibraltar for sale at Musician's Friend for $69.00 :
