I would go for a good engineer and room before I go for a particular mic.

Knowledge with placement/room acoustic/mixing does WAY more for your sound than pinpointing a particular brand.

That being said, if its live stuff, I use sm57's and Beta52, but for the studio you can go a lot higher quality.

I totally agree with Damo and some resonance rims would also help because with heavy hitting you tend to create alot of vibration, also i found LP claws work very well for mounting mics topside always with extreme versatility, then i boom C1000S mics overhead to pick up the cymbals and also creates an extra track of background fill to give everything a nice full sound at your discreation. Use new heads if you're tracking for a CD you'll be glad you did when the engineering starts, you won't hear alot of strange noises during playbacks. I drove the engineers crazy at one session because my vintage yellowjacket kick pedal which the main movement of it consists of bushings and bearings,a little 3in1 worked for awhile but i eventually sidelined it and put on my premier, problem solved ! Have fun tracking clemypaul.
