Re: looking at Bass Drum Mic Mounts

Hey Brent ! I'm not sure if you're looking for a permanent fixed mount or something that clamps on and can be removed during tear down,i personally found after many years of trial and error that i was'nt satisfied with anything being sold on the market because me being a heavy stomper the mics would very seldom hold their direction during constant play or the sound engineer was going insane trying to filter out the vibration,so we put our thoughts together and decided my Ddrum kick trigger on the batter side along with the kick mic on a "shorty"boom stand centered in the 5" hole on the front made a tremedous difference in sound quality that when he pushed 15,000 watts to me as a test measure i could literally see peoples clothing move that were standing in front of the PA,mate lets just say i was in bottom end heaven and we still talk about it on occasion to get a good healthy laugh going.Thats my most memorable time about trying to solve mic placement on a kick drum. Just remember it always sounds great from where you're sitting, its out front that matters most. Don't let it stress you out though because us "backdrop monitors" were born to keep the other mates in time and don't forget that. PEACE OUT FRIEND !

ok well i bit the bullet and bought a Kelly-Shu. and i must say it has improved the quality of sound and tone of the drum. the bottom end i gained was insane. everyone who mics their own kick should definately look at the kelly shu, and even if you dont like it you get a 30 day money back guarantee, i am one very happy drummer.
