Drum head suggestions

Hey there,

Im new to the site. I have been playing drums for 30+ years off and on, but went through a long period that I didnt own a set. I recently bought a new 1 due to my 13 yr old wanting to learn. Im not liking the default heads that came with the set(coated clear-batter/clear reso). I just bought a new set of Pacific LX2205 Maples. Bass 22X18, Toms 10X8/12X9/14X12, Snare 14X5.

I like a lower tone from my toms and bass with not alot of ringing to them. I play more rock style than anything else. So since I've been out of the market for a bit what would be the best top/bottom combinations of heads for my toms/bass and snare?

Thx!

SonicMan2 I'm just the opposite I like alot of ringing in my snare and I like alot of tone if you like the Rock Sound go for Remo Heads 2 ply I'm not familiar with the remo2 ply I used the Evans G2 heads for a while and they in my opinion were just OK and I've been playing over 40 years I would go to the music store and look into REMO HEADS 2 PLY On my snare I had the head that has the large round black dot in the middle it really holds down the over tones I think it's called the power Dot or something I just don't remember but I know it's what you want and they probably have the same heads for the toms I don't know about the Bass ask what to use I really think these heads are just what your looking for as far as the bottom heads go I would go for just 2 ply heads use the same Brand as the top heads and if you really want to tune them excellent get a Drum Dial it's $59.00 but it's well worth it
and find out what you should tune the top heads to (what number and then the bottom heads (what number) I've been tuning my drums for over 40 years and didn't think that this drum dial was more than a gimmick to make money but let me tell you I was wrong this thing really works and you can fine tune it after your done it just helps tuning , in a different way and it's WORTH EVERY DOLLAR, and you will have a well tuned set. Let me know how things work out for you I'm interested. GOOD LUCK SLINGERLAND

The Remo Pinstripes are what I think Slingerland was referring to, and yes, they have less overtone, less stick attack and a more full warm sound to them that will bring out the sound of those maple shells. I like them best for Toms only. They are most appropriate for Rock or harder hitters--and they last a long time.

They come in clear or ebony-the ebonies have a even drier tone with much more ring control inherent in the head design--and they look totally cool...

For snare I lean towards a Aquarian or Evans head with sound control built in. For the kick I also prefer Evans E-Mad or Aquarian sound control...

Pinstripes will give you a lot of bassy thud. If you want a little more song to your toms I recomend Evans g2 coated batter and g1 clear reso. You'll love 'em.

Remo pinstripes coated are good but for the bass ringing, place a muffler inside of it. That will stop the bass ringing and gives a good thud . The old way was to place a pillow or a wool blanket in it.
There's also dampening muffler rings for the toms and snare, their low cost and very effective. But Remo also has a muffler that has Velcroand keeps it in place.

Re: Drum head suggestions

Thanks all for the suggestions.

I went down to the local Drum store and talked to the guy there and played around on a few different things they had set up. Long story short here's what I got:

EC2 for the toms, Remo Black Dot for my snare and the EMAD for the Bass kicker. Got in late tonight so I havent put them on yet. Put will post something once I do.

Have an awesome weekend!
