Hey All~
This may just be a silly question, but I like to try new things. Is it feasible to put wood hoops on a metal shelled snare? Is there even any advantages that could come from this? Is this even possible? I'm not well versed in drum hardware and would be open to some education.

gives rimshots another sound n rim clicks obviously. I'd take a wood rim/hoop on my snare over metal any day

Ya, it's worth a try if you've got some cash to blow. But I doubt if it would make much of a difference, other than looking pretty funky, because I think most of the sound comes from the skins, shell and sticks. You'd have to record the rimshot sound with the metal hoop and then with the wood hoop to see if you can tell any difference. Let us know what you find out if you do the experiment.
