Re: Advantages of drum racks

You guys have seen my kit. I have two curved rack systems with extensions. thundafoot is right about the memory locks.

I've got this setup now over 5 years and I've got no gripes when it comes to the Gibraltar Rack System. Never had anything slip out of place yet. These clamps need to be loose to slip. It's important that their as tight as possible.

With all the drumming going on, the hands must be strong enough to tighten them up good.

Then again some drummers prefer different comforts in life.

Not everybody drinks the same brand either. Even though it's good to express your thoughts, thoughts, thoughts.......

Re: Advantages of drum racks

Skb Rack cases cost from$265.00 - $300.00! Im currently using 5 stands (when I'm not using my rack) including my hi hat stand that doesn't fold like the heavy weights do...

Any tips to figure out the perfect size of case?

Also I don't drink any brands, and hoping not to start either...!

Re: Advantages of drum racks

Try using a ruler or a measuring tape.

There are some rack cases that have reinforced bases in them. Their made of a thick plastic so the case stays squared.

You know, like some are hip and some are square.

You're absolutely right. Memorial Day Sales are here. Some stores carry the sales all week long.

Re: Advantages of drum racks

Maybe someone has already discussed this part, but I'm against racks simply because if I go to a gig by myself, and have to move stuff by myself, after setting up a rack, moving it would require at least 2 people depending on how big it is.

I, of course, discovered this after I had bought a rack and set it up, and then was asked to move everything on stage a bit. Toms and cymbals get really heavy when they're all on one thing!

Over time I've downgraded my kit to a Charlie Watts kit with old-style Ludwig flush based cymbal stands. It's nice to have all this light stuff!

You can move a rack by yourself if you"man up and eat your Wheaties in the AM"...JUST KIDDING.....I purchased our rack for my son and it is set up in our garage so we are..."non giggers"...I have really been impressed with the "V" rack and I added on the sides with legs(no wings),it has been a blessing to get rid of so many stands if your kit is stationary,I cannot comment on the guys that sling their kits for gigs....my rack is set and we love it.

Re: Advantages of drum racks

Ya, a rack is on my wish list for a non-gigging practice kit in the garage. I'm sick and tired of trying to adjust the stupid (low-end) pearl tom arms. I can never get the toms where I want them. And I'd love a remote hi-hat on a rack. I've collected two cheap kits that I want to combine with a rack system.

When I used to gig I had a simple 4-piece kit with a minimum of accessories. For me the rack idea makes sense when you're dreaming big and having fun.

Re: Advantages of drum racks

When drumming is no longer fun, shoot me!!

I'll admit that needing to shift my kit can be difficult, but setting up all my junk on stands would be harder. I tend to set up my pearl dr-80 to the side of stage with my cymbal and Tom arms on it. I get all my drums out of their bags, then at show time while the rack still folded it's quite easy to lift up and put in place by myself. Then just throw on the goodies and rock some panties off.
