My hardware starts to shake

Hi, I've had stock hardware, it's probably single braced, but whenever I hit a crash, it shakes for a bit. I've taken into consideration the drum rack thread, and I might save up for one, but I just want to know if it's normal... I've seen alot of professional drum solo's and there hardware shakes a great deal too, but my hardware is only about 1 year old soon, and if it's not normal I might have to save up for a whole drum rack pack

Thanks!

Re: My hardware starts to shake

How bad is it shaking? A little movement is probably normal but wobbling is not.

Re: My hardware starts to shake

The shaking last's probably as long as my Projection Crash 17'', probably for like 4-5 seconds it shakes, that's for my stock Ludwig stand, my Yamaha with a Z Custom 16 Medium crash shakes for about 1-2 seconds, my cymbal clamp with 14'' A Custom to the Yamaha lasts 3-4 seconds, and that's about it...

Also my other no name brand stand with an 18'' HH Thin China doesn't shake.. but it makes a weird ringing noise and I'm confident it isn't the cymbal

Thanks

Alec, are you sure it's not the snare wires?
Ryder, did you try fully extending the legs of the stands?

Sorry for the late reply but yeah the stand shakes a while after a cymbal is hit, not the snare buzz, I can live with that

Re: My hardware starts to shake

Wow the 14" A Custom shakes like that on a stand that is not even a year old? The stand has to be a very light duty stand and probably not built to well. The 17" crash, well I can see that moving a bit, but even 4 -5 seconds is more than it should.

Might be time to start to replace stands one at a time to something more sturdy. I use all heavy duty stands on my 5 piece kit and the only thing that moves is the cymbal.

Hi Ryder,

Most hardware will move a bit, when the cymbals are hit.
Normally not a big deal, as long as it does not interfere with what you want the cymbal to do.

Try riding the crash in a steady pattern and see what really is going on.

Something tells me that you might have your cymbals quite tight in between the felts. Personally I like the cymbals to sit real loose.
I had a big cymbal (20" heavy Ride) supported from a stand that was as flimsy as a music stand. (I had forgotten my proper stand)
It still worked okay but it was a bit scary, I have to confess.
Other wise, I agree with Tainojim, The Gibraltar stands are excellent and imho the best value for money.

Cheers and Happy Drumming ,

Harry.
