Re: How do you mic a drum set? Thank guys, but I can't really afford that. I only have one mic, and I can probably only buy one more mic, I think I'm going to just record overhead. Is that still really good sound quality? And once I mic my drumset, how do I get the audio? Can I just plug it into a computer? Or do I have to buy some kind of sound board? And if I do get it into a computer, do I have to get a recording software to mix it? I'm asking all of this because I also want to do youtube videos. |

Re: How do you mic a drum set? If you wanna record for you tube you'd do best to use the mic on your camcorder if that's what your using.
You can plug a mic directly into your computers sound card and record with windows voice recorder. Alternatively you can download audacity for free. It's a simple program that will give you good results. I'd recomend postitioning the mic overhead to get the best sound.
Good luck and be sure to post us the results. |

But anyways, thank you so much, plug in my mic to the sound card. By any chance, can you send me a link to a cord that can plug from the mic to the sound card? |

Re: How do you mic a drum set? Well it depends what sort of mic you have. Perhaps take it into your music shop and ask them what cord/ plug you need. If they don't have it I'm sure radio shack would. |

Because I have a cord for my mic that I just bought at a SamAsh, the plug seems to be the same as every other one. |

All mic ends are standard XLR's, but when it comes to amps & mixers, there can be XLR, 1/4" or RCA's at the inputs, or combination's of each.
Now that depends on how expensive they are. |

Re: How do you mic a drum set? Or we could just start a comprehensive list of all the possible cable ends. |

Re: How do you mic a drum set? Jimmy,
As an electronics engineer, take my word for it.
That's the way it is.
All condenser mics need the 48 volts phantom voltage to operate. That means that a mixer or a PA system needs to be in the picture.
You don't want to pump this voltage into a standard mic. |

Re: How do you mic a drum set? Because the micro operates on that phantom power coming in.
I understand. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
