Try a Kick Port if you like the low thumps. Turns bass drum into giant sub woofer. I use the Emads with the kick port made a noticeable difference. Shops that carry down here cant keep them in stock. Surprised they aren't talked about a whole lot yet.

The Aquarian Superkick II and Regulator w/ pre-cut hole is a great combination of heads for almost any application. I use these on all of my drum kits, except for 2 (1 vintage calf skin, and 1 w/18"k). These should work well for you. You will NOT need to add muffling to the heads or put towels. shirts, blankets, or other crap inside of your bass drum, either. Just make sure to always use a Kick-Pad on the Batter head where your pedal beaters hit it, or you'll damage the bass drum head.

I've had good luck with ebony Powerstroke 3's. I want to try an EMAD, or Regulator resonants.

If you want a short punchy sound, e.g. for metal, purchase Evans Onyx heads. If you want a wider tuning and resonance range for varied styles, i'd go with a Evans EMAD.
