Gift Idea--- Need Help!!

Alright, I'm not a drummer, but my bro plays and I'm looking to get him a pair or two of drumsticks for the holidays, and I was wondering if there is any drumstick that is versatile that can be played on set and marching? I've been hearing 5A's are popular and I'm not sure how close they are to a 5B, which I hear are good for marching. Also if you can give me some feed back on what the best set sticks and the best marching sticks are that would be great. I really want to make this a surprise. Or do I have to take him to the local music store to have him try some?

2b's are pretty heavy and can be used for both, but i'd just go for 5b i guess, but you should take him to the music store, cause theres alot of different types of sticks, and he might like only a certain tip, or feel, etc

Gazzo, it isn't politically correct to make fun of midgets!

Seriously,

Rdyer is correct, sticks are a very personal choice and will be difficult to purchase for him unless you already know what he likes.

That's a picture of Phil Gaynor when he was first starting out I think.

Brewmeister,
do you know what size sticks your bro plays?

There are many brands on the market.

ProMark New Generation 5A are good sticks also. They are heavy.
Also Vic Firth American Classic 7A are light.

Vic Firth is a popular brand, I use Aheads 5A's besides the Vic's.

I practice with 5A sticks and switch to 7A for more speed.

Keep away from those package deals. So take him to a local music shop and let him decide for his comfort.

Good luck on your quest.
