guys im torn!

whats up all you psychedelic drummers&drummetes
drew here again and im torn
meaning i have a big choice to make for my batter heads on my toms. i can go with either a g2 coated batter or a ec2.

i like both but the problem is i have led palms and i whale on heads and if i get ec2s im worried that they wont last long with how much hitting ill be doing

or i could go with the g2s

could one of u awesome gurus give me maybe the life of these heads and insight me to the right choice

yall have made me make some great choices in the past and im calling on yall again
cheers
drew

Re: guys im torn!

Ah this is an easy one....

I use a mix of G1s and G2s on my toms and here is why.

The G1 is a single ply and I use them on my smaller toms because I tend not to have to hit them nearly as hard to get cutting sound from them (this keeps my dimpling problems to zero on these heads), and they have a built in dampening ring for shorter sustain (I hate toms that rings for ever).

The G2 is a double ply head and I use them on my bigger toms because that is where I will tend to hit harder to match the volume between the smaller and bigger toms (this makes dimpling nearly impossible, they are very durable), and they have a built in dampening ring for short sustain.

If you whale on all of your toms you can't go wrong using all G2s, they will hold up well.

G2's (As Der said)
Are double-ply.
Or thicker.
So those would generally last longer and hold up to a beating.

I use g2 clear on all my toms. I'm also a hard hitter and despite a little denting I get on my floors from my 3a sticks they all seem to be singing wonderfully still. I'm considering going ec2 on the floors in future for the extra focus and hopefully durability. I hear the onyx is also slightly thicker.

Im Using an Ec2 on my floor tom, and it sounds good, say that I wasn't doing my best tuning I think you can easily have better success (with that part), AND I haven't done any thing to effect the look besides making the white skid mark looking things.
