I DID use them for about 4-5 months.
The reason was that in my noob days, I was expensive due to technique. I would break a pair of wooden sticks in a 30min session. Not good for daddy's pocket!!
So I used the 5A
Ahead carbo's! They were alright up until the point of trying to get some speed, they then became rubbish and insanely hard to use. This was a massive problem as they were stunting my rise in ability.
One more problem is that they aren't very cheap in the short run. They are somewhat of a bad choice. The replaceable tips came in a pack (I forget of how many) but they were £10. I could get a pack of half decent sticks for that, what the hell is the point? The replaceable shafts were £5 a pop, which is again somewhat of a big price, especially if you play with thick cymbals like mine.
The way I see it is, if your looking to save money on sticks then go for a lower brand name sticks. Trust me when I say this, I hit things VERY hard and gig about once every 2 weeks on average. Any drummer who knows anything will tell you that most of the sticks you can get on eBay for cheap are pretty tidy. Think about it, they are all made of wood...Vater,
Vic Firth ect. all use the same thing to make sticks. Wood. I got a pack of 24 Hickory 5A sticks for like £25. That is a win seeing as one pair lasts for AGES!! They had a dodgy name like QTX Sound, and they were immense. I now play Stagg and they are also just fine. Some sticks might not be beautiful, but as long as they feel about right and aren't splintery then they're fine with me.
Hope this helps someone as naive as I once was

I used to play name branded sticks and I will now only touch the cheaper option
Regards,
Dan.
