New Bass Drum Heads Needed...suggestions?

Hey!

I've been looking for some new bass drum heads and i'm just wondering what other people use...?
Cutting straight to the point i've heard good things about the Evans EMAD's from my teacher and to be honest i'm quite close to buying 2.

To make it clear to eveyone I want both a BATTER and a RESONANT skin.

I play a Yamaha Stage Custom 22" bass drum and also my kick is a Pearl P-122 but I use the back end of the beater because I like the sound more. The back end of the beater is plastic by the way...

The sound I am going for is a very large and aggressive thud/slam.

So if any of you know any good heads to get, let me know and I will look into them.

Regards,
Dan.

Re: New Bass Drum Heads Needed...suggestions?

the EMAD makes a nice thump, but I would also reccomend the Remo Powersonic batter head, it's basically an emad except remo... i use the plastic sides on my pearl pedals and it gives a nice thump to it'

i can't help with reso's cause i've not bought a resonant head...

I use an EMAD2 clear as my batter and it gives a nice deep thump (great bass drum sound in my opinion), needless to say I highly recommend the EMAD2 batter and the EMAD resonant together. With the foam rings that come with both you have nice control over the amount of sustain you get.

Thanks for replying guys!

Well yeah I think I like the sound of them both together as then you don't have to put pillows and what not into your bass drum, which is always a relief!

Me and my band are going into the studio on the 5th and 6th of Jan, so I need to do it ASAP really...

Thanks again,
Dan.

Remo Pinstripes front and rear.

Beater pad and Muffler Strap across the batter side.

For more thud, install a pillow type muffler inside the bass facing the resonance.

Get the Super kick I and a regulator. Then put a remo slam falam on the Super kick I. I have this setup right now and when you tune it high you get a nice punch with some low end and when you tune it low then you can get a really low pitch if you don't use any muffling.

for a batter head i'd recommend the powerstroke 3 clear for a rock sound and for the resonant id get a smooth white PS3or an ebony PS3 with 5 in porthole your choice o and a remo falam slam for a punchier sound

I have always used the Remo pinstripe in the past. And about three months ago changed to the Super Kick 1 with alot of hesitation since I was a die hard Remo pinstripe fan. I am very happy for the swap. And the cool thing is that I don't have to stuff any pillows in the drum.

Aquarian makes awsome bass heads!!!

Superkick 2 batter

Regulator resonant--white or black your choice--

tune the batter realy low and the reso higher than the batter more than just a tad but not to much

that combo has plenty of low end and packs a powerfull punch
