Alternative Bass Pedal

Does anyone here know of a source for a "heel pedal". I often believed that I could double pedal much faster with my heels, pivoting on the balls of my feet. An internet search discovered a three page, detailed diagram of just such a pedal. I was thrilled, but there was no manufacturer information. Does anyone make such a pedal, or should I develop it and become a millionaire?

Looks like a dyslexic pedal. It works backwards.

I basically use that technique on a regular pedal. that seems like it might be faster though.

Re: Alternative Bass Pedal

I spoke with the guy that made this prototype, and he directed me to this video on youtube. What are your thoughts (about the concept, not his skills)

Re: Alternative Bass Pedal

The problem I always see with specialty equipment of any kind is that sometimes things happen and you need to substitute it with a standard. Its kinda the same reason I learned guitar and drums right handed even though I am left.

Gene Hoglan flies on the bass while using 30 year old camcos, combat boots and leg weights so I think the limitations on standard equipment have yet to be reached.

However, I'm all for innovation but a lot of times I feel that tradition has a lot to offer too. We have a tendency to make everything easier but I think it just makes us less versatile at the end of the day.

As for the pedal itself: I suppose you could get a lot of power out of it but it seems to limit your technique to heel smashing, whereas a standard pedal can be approached a great many different ways.
